Ho Chi Minh City, still called Saigon by many locals, is a center of commerce, finance, culture and tourism in Vietnam. This bustling metropolis, contradiction of its northern counterpart, is crowded with bikes and motorbikes, excited by numerous shopping area and sidewalk cafés. (If time permits) we stroll around the down town to explore the different local ways of life. Overnight in Ho Chi Minh. Includes: (B)

Day 2: Ho Chi Minh – Cu Chi – Ho Chi Minh. The sightseeing tour acquaints us with some major sights of the city. We pass the now-demolished wartime American Embassy before we visit the Reunification Palace which was the former residence of the President of South Vietnam until end of April 1975, and some French colonial structures including the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Old Sai Gon Post Office. After seeing the Jade Emperor Pagoda and the War Remnant Museum, we continue our trip on to the bustling Ben Thanh Market where anything and everything is for sale. We then drive this afternoon, to explore the Cu Chi Tunnels, an incredible underground tunnel network of approximately 200 kilometres constructed by Vietnamese fighters during the long struggle for independence. Overnight in Ho Chi Minh. Includes: (B)

Day 3: Ho Chi Minh – Vinh Long – Can Tho. Heading out of the town, we travel by road to Vinh Long Province. After three hour drive from Ho Chi Minh’s bustling streets, we embark on our boat cruising around the tributaries of the mighty Mekong River. Along the way, we visit the vibrant floating market of Cai Be and local cottages industries including rice paper makers and bonsai nurseries. A huge lunch followed with many seasonal fruits at an orchard is some enjoyment of the trip. We then weave our way through the intricate network of canals which are the lifeblood of the Mekong Delta, and drive to Can Tho, our destination for this evening. Overnight in Can Tho. Includes: (B)

Day 4: Can Tho – Chau Doc. Today, we continue venturing into the Mekong Delta with the next stop being the border town of Chau Doc. This small town chiefly owes its existence to the rice production. On arrival, we board a boat cruising on the Mekong River with stopover at a floating village and fish breeding farm. In the late afternoon, we also visit the sacred Ba Chua Temple and its nearby sanctuary of Tay An before ascending the Sam Mountain to watch the beautiful sunset over Cambodia and the Mekong River. Overnight in Chau Doc. Includes: (B)

Day 5: Chau Doc – SaDec – Ho Chi Minh City. The return trip begins as we depart the town. The road conditions are very poor, but the scenic countryside and the local life make for an interesting journey. We pass the idyllic town of Sa Dec, which is famous for its bonsai growing garden and stop to visit the Cho Lon, Saigon’s Chinatown, crammed with fascinating temples and mysterious, narrow lanes. The remainder of the day is free for your own exploration of the town and catching up on some shopping areas. Overnight in Ho Chi Minh. Includes: (B)
