Grab you Spanish phrase book.

Eating your hearty meals around the wood stove you will gain insight to a way of life that is similar to the frontier days of the American west. This cultural and natural experience can not be matched anywhere. This trip is the Real Deal: a trip back in time. The valley contains lots of exciting history from the days the pioneers settled it and many are still alive. As the trip progress's you realize you are getting to understand this remote section of Patagonia and its people.

At our lodge you can adjust the frequency and length of your riding to suit your own tastes. Our lodge based equestrian trips are ideal for those individuals with limited experience on horseback and is also the perfect place to learn good riding technique. Our guides are always available to teach beginners and we can even schedule beginner week horseback riding vacations should you so desire.

The lodge also has plenty to offer the more experienced equestrian rider. From the comforts of our weather proof lodge you can set out each day to explore a new part of this incredible Patagonia country side. All of our rides vary in terrain and skill level. Those along the valley floor offer the opportunity to gallop and trot and those higher up in the Andes mountains will test your horsemanship and handling skills.

Day 1: Arrival and introductions

Arrive in Santiago to start your vacation and connect to Puerto Montt. In Puerto Montt you board your 40-minute flight to Chaitén, a flight back in time. We will meet you at the airport where we start our drive across the Andes: volcanoes, fjord-like lakes, hanging glaciers and the turquoise rapids of the Futaleufu river. We arrive in Futaleufu and are taken directly to our lodge. You will be met with wine and cheese around the fire place.

Day 2: Orientation to the horses

We sleep in late and after breakfast in the lodge walk to the barn for an introduction to your horse. We make sure all your tack fits well and ride off for a half day ride to Piedra de Aguila and the rock outcropping overlook. We return to the lodge for a dinner in the dining room.

Day 3: To the Devils Throat

We ride up on a trail along the pristine Rio Espolon crossing small wood bridges, sandy beaches, till we get to a tremendous Class 6 cascade exploding out of the upper lake into the valley blow. A sight to behold.

Day 4: To Rio Chico

This ride takes us upstream to a charming valley that contains the endangered huemul a small dear like animal that resembles the ficticious jackelope of the American intermountain west. Only this is real. We ride into the National Reserve of the Heumul.

Day 5: To the Escalas Circuit valley

We horseback ride along the Infierno gorge a black rock canyon of the Futaleufu river as we view the agitated turquoise water 500 feet below. The trail enters the open Las Escalas valley. We cross the Futaleufu river on a swinging bridge and ride through an old growth forest of Coyhue trees up out of the valley and around a small lake back to the village of Futaleufu.
