The trip will take place on a rather unique trail system, considered by Conde Naste Magazine to be one of the seventeen most beautiful rail trails in the world. This is a world class ride that is filled with a multitude of natural, cultural and historically significant sites.
You will be pedaling the 125 miles from Pittsburgh, PA to Cumberland, MD along the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP Trail). The converted railroad bed is perfect for touring cyclists - the max grade is 2%!
2018 Tour Dates:
Day 1: Meet at the Historic Pump House in Pittsburgh’s Waterfront, and follow the Youghiogheny River upstream to The Inn at Lenora’s.
Day 2: Pedal past waterfalls and beautiful mountain laurel as you enter the Youghiogheny River Gorge and Ohiopyle State Park, ending your day with a gourmet dinner at the Trillium Lodge.
Day 3: Today’s ride will have you high above the ground! Bike over 100 feet of rail bridge and across the 101-feet-high Salisbury Viaduct for views of the Somerset wind farms. Tonight, enjoy a homemade dinner at the Levi-Deal Mansion.
Day 4: Three railroad tunnels await your passage on the final day of riding. Cross the Eastern Continental Divide for an easy downhill cruise into Cumberland, MD, and mile zero of the Great Allegheny Passage!
