No qualifications are needed to join the internship teaching project in China. However, interns should have enough knowledge of the English language to effectively teach its basics to Chinese students. Non-native speakers can also join this project if able to effectively speak, read, and write English. No salary or benefits will be offered to intern English teachers in this particular internship.
- Intern's responsibilities
In China, there is growing demand for an English education. With the economic growth, the importance of English education is also growing. Many of the schools in China have established an 'English corner. This is a place specially designed for teaching and learning English. These schools are very eager to be able to offer native English teachers as instructors for their eager-to-learn students. Unfortunately, only private, (and often expensive) schools in the more developed, metropolitan areas attract native English teachers. Most of the resource poor schools remain in search of quality teachers for their English classes - especially for native English speakers.
Therefore, as an intern English teacher in China, you will teach English at these resource poor and rural schools. It would be possible to arrange free room and food but these schools do not offer a salary like private schools. One of the most distinguished features of our internships in China is the guidance of supervisors. Whichever projects you choose, we will assign a qualified supervisor to provide assistance for all interns throughout the duration of their chosen internship. Individuals filling the role of supervisor are usually either the director or chosen staff member of the project which interns choose. During your time as an international intern, you will be assigned a number of duties which volunteers also perform (in this sense, there are very few differences between our volunteers and interns).
Wherein exists the differences between interning and volunteering is that the internship allows individuals to become more deeply involved in their chosen project (individuals interning in the English-teaching project can further explore issues related to education such as ESL classrooms, TEFL, TESOL). Please note: the project supervisor Does not develop internships as this is up to the intern to get as much or as little out of their projects. All participants should be proactive to ensure the ultimate success of their internships. Supervisors will provide at least five (5) hours each week to make certain that interns are adequately guided.
We arrange a separate room and food (3 meals a day consisting of local, Chinese cuisine). Most of the internship teaching placements are far from our office in Hangzhou. In this case, our In-Country Coordinator will keep in touch with interns either by email or phone. The Head Master of interns' assigned schools will serves as the primary contact.
Our internships in China begin on the first and third Monday of each month. We are proud to offer the same services offered by our competitors but at a highly economical price (nearly 50-175%). Furthermore, we do not make six-figure salaries. What we do is work very and effectively to keep costs down for individuals seeking and international internship. We remain constantly devoted to maintaining both the quality of our programs and ensuring the safety of our international interns.
