Day 1: We leave Cape Town early and travel through the superbly scenic Cape Winelands. Each valley is graced with great scenic beauty and we enjoy a tasting at one of the beautiful estates. Passing through the uniquely beautiful Klein Karoo, we arrive in Oudtshoorn, undisputed "ostrich capital" of the world. Great flocks of these strange and wonderful birds are to be seen everywhere. We visit an Ostrich Show Farm, where we are shown the development of these great flightless birds from the one kilogram egg to the 100 kilogram adult.
We then visit one of the great wonders of Africa - the subterranean wonderland of the Cango Caves. We explore this vast sequence of caverns, each filled with astonishing formations of glittering dripstone. Overnight in Oudtshoorn/George area.
Day 2: After a full English breakfast we visit the Botliers Kop Game Farm. On a typical morning game drive in an open vehicle one may expect to see: lions, rhino, bufallo and the rare black impala. After lunch we board the Outeniqua Steam Train, one of South Africa's last steam locomotives still in daily use. We head parallel to the spectacular Outeniqua Mountains and descend into the heart of the Garden Route. Arriving in Knysna, we wind up the day with a sunset lagoon cruise on the beautiful Knysna Lagoon. Overnight in Knysna.
Day 3: Originally named Bahia Formosa (Beautiful Bay) by the first Portuguese explorers to visit it, Plettenberg Bay more than lives up to its name as you spend the day in its environs, experiencing your choice of the 101 delights available in the area. One may wander through nature reserves, hike forest trails or paddle up amber-colored rivers. You can frolic in the tremendous Indian Ocean surf or beach-comb the endless golden sands for seashells. You can go scuba diving or enjoy a round of golf. You can bird-watch, dolphin-watch, whale-watch…the list is endless.
Day 4: We begin to explore the legendary Tsitsikamma Forest, following the coastal road winding its way along river gorges, over breathtaking mountain passes and through dense indigenous forests. We visit Nature's Valley, a tiny coastal settlement more than half-buried beneath towering forest. Our exploration of this ancient forest includes a walk, which winds its way through the tangle of trees, ferns and creepers to a massive Outeniqua Yellowwood, over 700 years old. In the afternoon we leave the Garden Route behind us and head east. The mountains disappear behind us and the Cape Fynbos is replaced by the stunted bush and thorn trees of the great savannah bush, which typifies Africa. We enter the fabulous Addo Elephant Park for an experience never to be forgotten. We enjoy an enthralling night game drive and overnight in the Park.
Day 5: We spend an unforgettable day in the park! 8,600 ha of prime game land teeming with wildlife awaits you and offers viewing of some of Africa's most impressive animals, including elephant, buffalo, black rhino, kudu, a great variety of other antelope species, as well as birds, plants, insects and reptiles. We spend the day exploring the wilderness, in search of wildlife. We leave for Port Elizabeth, where we arrive in the late afternoon.
