The maximum group size is 12 skiers plus and an expert tour leader which makes the tour a nice small-group experience. If you are lucky the Northern Lights’ dance on the night sky will top off your skiing week!

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival at Kuusamo airport where your guide will be welcoming you. Transfer (1 hour) to Hossa where we will accommodate in Jatkonsalmi cabin.

Day 2: Jatkonsalmi – Rajakartano 17 km. After breakfast we start the week skiing on the well-prepared tracks of Hossa Hiking Area whose nature is dominated by handsome pine heathlands, ridge-lines, small lakes and streams. We will have lunch at the Hossa Visitor Centre, where we can also take a look at the exhibition on the area. In the afternoon we can relax in the traditional Finnish sauna and the more adventurous among us can even try ice swimming. At night we will visit a local reindeer farm where we will enjoy a delicious dinner and of course, learn about reindeer herding today.

Day 3: Rajakartano – Kovavaara 25 km. The longest skiing day of the week starts on the tracks of Hossa and then follows border guard’s trails towards south. We will cross many small mires and ski through some ancient forests. Slightly before the midway point, at Vieremäjärvi, we can have some rest and enjoy a picnic lunch around an open fire. Hot coffee and soup will be prepared and served with sandwiches. Accommodation for the next night will be in a rustic old house on the top of the hill Kovavaara. There are no modern comforts in the house but in exchange the history and lifestyle of 1950's are untouched.

Day 4: Kovavaara – Arola 19 km. The third skiing day follows the Russian border zone. The yellow border zone marks are our guides for the whole day and we can see to the Russian side from several points. In the afternoon we will arrive at Arola situated just a stone’s throw from the Russian border. Arola is famous for delicious food made by our hostess Helena out of local ingredients. The dinner will be served in a traditional log house.

Day 5: Arola – Martinselkonen Wilderness Centre 22 km. Today´s route passes through the Martinselkonen nature reserve through open marsh and spruce forests following paths of reindeer. We will have a picnic lunch at one of the wilderness huts operated by Finnish Forest and Park Service. The accommodation for the last two nights will be at Martinselkonen Wilderness Centre, another former border guard station renovated into a modern guest house.

Day 6: Day tour at Martinselkonen 17 km. On the last skiing day we will make a day tour in Martinselkonen nature reserve. We will ski across the wintry landscape – over frozen lakes and swamps and through forests covered in a thick white blanket. In the evening there is the last opportunity to have sauna and after that, the well-deserved farewell dinner will be enjoyed.

Day 7: Return. Breakfast and transport to the Kuusamo airport.
