Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: San Francisco, CA.

On arrival this evening from Calgary, you will be welcomed and transferred to the brand new Intercontinental San Francisco hotel for one night. Enjoy a welcome cocktail in the lobby Bar 888 at the hotel. It’s pretty much guaranteed that you’ll have a fun time in San Francisco. And it’s always been this way: San Francisco’s reputation as a rollicking city where almost anything goes dates back to the boom-or-bust days of the California Gold Rush. The result is a wee bit o’ heaven for everyone. In a city that is so beautiful, exciting and cosmopolitan there’s always something enjoyable to see and do no matter how long you’re staying. Hotel: Intercontinental San Francisco. Meals: None.

Day 2: San Francisco - Napa, CA.

Spend the morning and afternoon enjoying some of the sights of San Francisco. From the cool blast of air as you stroll across the Golden Gate. Stuff yourself with dim sum in Chinatown. Browse the shops along Haight Street. Walk along the beach, saunter through Golden Gate Park, ride the cable cars, tour a Victorian mansion, explore Alcatraz Island: Like an eternal world’s fair, it’s all happening in San Francisco, the only question you will face is which option to choose. In the late afternoon, reconvene at the hotel for a transfer to Napa Valley, the birthplace of the California wine industry.

The drive is around one hour from San Francisco to your home for the next three nights - Carneros Inn - one of the wine country’s finest retreats. Dinner tonight will be at Farm at The Carneros Inn in their Private Dining Room. Farm is a restaurant dedicated to food that accompanies wine. The belief is in well-balanced, comforting, full-flavoured dishes that are simple in concept but complex in taste, emphasizing the natural flavours of the ingredients. The inspiration comes from access to the finest local, organic and sustainably raised ingredients that are sourced primarily within a 150 mile radius of Carneros. Hotel: Carneros Inn. Meals: Breakfast & Dinner Hotel.

Day 3: Napa Valley, CA.

After a leisurely breakfast, set off to visit the Benziger family winery, where at any given time, two generations of Benzigers (Ben-zig-ger) may be running around tending to chores. The pastoral, user-friendly property features an exceptional self-guided tour ("The most comprehensive tour in the wine industry," according to Wine Spectator), gardens, a spacious tasting room staffed by amiable folk, and an art gallery. Visit the historic town of Sonoma for lunch on your own, and follow a self guided walking tour mapped out by the Sonoma League for Historic Preservation. Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure, then head over to Ramekin’s Sonoma Valley Culinary School where you will learn how to prepare a gourmet meal incorporating the region’s finest produce. Enjoy a wine makers dinner where local wines are paired with regional specialities. Hotel: Carneros Inn. Includes: (B), (D).

Day 4: Napa Valley, CA.

Sleep in and enjoy a leisurely breakfast, then transfer to Yountville, founded in 1831 by George Calvert Yount, who is credited with planting the first grapevines in the Napa Valley. Stop in for some tasting at the myriad of local wineries, and then enjoy a leisurely lunch on your own at one of the many fabulous restaurants in the wine country’s "culinary capital". After lunch, either continue to explore the surrounding vineyards or make a beeline back to the Carneros Inn and enjoy a fabulous spa treatment, relax by the pool or soak in the hot tub. Dinner tonight is at Francis Ford Coppola’s exclusive Rubicon estate. Renowned chef Kelly McCown will create a terroir menu to ignite the senses; with an emphasis on fresh, local, organic ingredients complemented by a selection of the estate’s wines and served in the elegant Barrel Room. Hotel: Carneros Inn. Meals: Breakfast & Dinner Hotel.

Day 5: Napa Valley, CA.

Rise early today and grab a quick breakfast before being whisked away for an early morning adventure in a journey by hot-air balloon. Enjoy spectacular views of the valley and vineyards below as you glide peacefully through the crisp pre-dawn air in your own private balloon. Following the one hour flight through soft, light winds; enjoy a delicious champagne brunch which will be served locally in Napa. This afternoon you will depart by coach to return to the airport in San Francisco for your journey home. Meals: Breakfast.
