When visiting the Garden route region, we recommend a visit inland to one of the most geologically interesting parts of South Africa, the Klein Karoo. It is renowned for its towering mountains and sheer gorges, and provides a stark contract to the lush Garden Route. For this reason we start our Garden Route encounter heading towards the town of Oudtshoorn.

Continuing our journey, we arrive in Oudtshoorn and have lunch in the town (own account) followed be a visit to the marvellous Cango Caves, a series of caverns and chambers naturally hewn out of limestone (among the top ten most visited South African attractions)
Check into our Guest House in Oudtshoorn, Adley House.

Day 2: Oudtshoorn - Knysna.

After a leisurely breakfast, we visit the Safari Ostrich Ranch, were we learn about grand scale ostrich farming, and have first hand encounters with ostriches (there is the possibility of even riding one if that appeals to you. We then proceed down the magnificent Outeniqua pass to the coastal road of the Garden Route and into Knysna for lunch (own account). In the afternoon, we take a ferry boat across the well known Knysna Lagoon, and have an afternoon walk in the beautiful Featherbed Nature Reserve. Day 3: Storms River and Tsitsikamma - Knysna.

After breakfast, we continue up the coast towards Africa's magnificent "place of much water", the Tsitsikamma National Park. Here you will see tranquil towering forests and fynbos rolling down to the sea in a luxuriant carpet. We visit the Storms River Mouth, and have a walk in the Tsitsikamma Forest to the Big Tree (a giant yellow wood, which is our national tree). On our return to Knysna, we will stop at the viewing deck in Plettenberg Bay. Overnight in Knysna at Guest House.
