A private fully escorted guided tour of 15 days. Norway is the only country in Northern Europe with preserved wooden stave churches from the Middle Ages still intact.In Viking times the technique of combining art with wood working was perfected and culminated in stave churches. They are a valuable part of the Norwegian architectural heritage being recognised by UNESCO to be of national and global significance.

Norway`s oldest wooden church, at Urnes and built in 1150 is listed in the presigious UNESCO`s World Heritage List. There are around 30 still standing and this tour takes you to over 20. Often located in magnificent natural surroundings you can discover these unique buildings whilst exploring and delighting in wonderful scenery - from fjords to mountains and including visits to Bergen,Oslo and Lillehammer.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive at Oslo(Gardermoen)airport. Train to Oslo and visit to the Norwegian Fiolk Museum with its Stave Church( originally from Gol). Also visits to the other local museums - the Polar Ship Fram; the Viking Ships and Kon- Tiki. Return to Gardermoen. Overnight at the Radisson Blu Airport Hotel with Half Board (DB&B).

Day 2: Heading south to Telemark to visit the Heddal Stave Church - the largest in Norway. Returning to Kongsberg to overnight at the Quality Hotel Grand with Half Board.

Day 3: Driving into the Numedal valley to visit the stave churches at Flesberg, Rollag and Nore. Overnight again at the Quality Hotel Grand in Konsgsbergwith Half Board.

Day 4: Visiting the Eidsborg stave church and then to overnight at the famous Dalen Hotel- one of Norway`s Historiske Hotels with Half Board.

Day 5: Heading north via Skien and Drammen en route to Oslo- the Viking capital with time to explore locally. Then continuing north to Lillehammer. Overnight at the Radisson Blu Lillehammer Hotel with Half Board.

Day 6: Visit to the Garmokirken Stave church at the famous Maihaugen Open Air museuem. Free time to discover the 1994 Olympic town and it attractions. Overnight at the Radisson Blu Lillehammer Hotel with Half Board.

Day 7: Heading north through Gudbrandsdal to visit the stave churches at Ringebu and Vaga en route to Lom. Overnight at the historic Fossheim Hotel with Half Board.

Day 8: Visit to Lom stave church. Then heading north into the mountains to enter the Nordfjord region and to Loen. Overnight at the excellent Alexandra Hotel with Half Board.

Day 9: Enjoying a full day excursion to Geiranger with a breathtaking ferry cruise through the entire fjord. Amazing views from the ship and even more so on the return drive back to Loen. Again overnight at the Alexandra Hotel with Half Board.

Day 10:driving south to visit the Norwegian Glacier Museum and the Boyabreen Glacier en route to visit the most famous Urnes stave church. Then the Kaupanger stave church. Following along the inner Sogne Fjord to Balestrand.O vernight at the Dragsvik Fjord Hotel with Half Board.

Day 11: Crossing over the Sogne Fjord to visit the Hopperstad stave church and ascending over the Vikafjell mountains to Vinje. Heading southwards to Bergen to visit the Fantoft stave church and to explore this impressive seaport. Overnight at the Radisson Blu Hotel Norge with Half Board.

Day 12: Leaving to head back into the mountains taking the main road to Oslo and to overnight at the internationally known Stalheim Hotel with Half Board.

Day 13: Descending the hair - raising Stalheimskleiva road with its 13 tight bends en route to visit Undredal stave church. Passing through the longest tunnel in the world en route to visit probably the most famous of all - the Borgund stave church which is the best preserved and most typical,and its visitor centre. Continuing into the mountains to Fillefejellstuene Mountain Hotel with Half Board.

Day 14: Descending through the superb Valdres Valley visiting Oye stave church; Hore stave church and Lomen stave church.Via Honefoss to return to Gardermoen. Overnight at the Radisson Blu Airport Hotel with Half Board.

Day 15: Tour debrief and transfer for departure.
