Slap-bang in the heart of the Amazon travellers will spend the week learning Spanish with native teachers and exploring the jungle in Cuyabeno National Park. Famous for its astonishing richness of plant and animal species, the Amazon rainforest offers limitless opportunities to marvel at the wonders of nature. Guided hikes with bilingual naturalist experts, visits to nearby Quichua indigenous communities, and paddle canoe excursions are all part of the day and nighttime activities during the week.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Upon arrival at Chiritza by bus, we will board a motorized canoe and navigate the quiet Aguarico River to Puca River, where we will locate a large sandy beach and set up camp for the night. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 2: We will break camp after a very early breakfast and continue downriver to the Playas of Cuyabeno, a Quichua community, where we will observe local customs and way of life. We will also take the opportunity to enjoy the delta where the Cuyabeno River empties into the Aguarico River (a frequent play area for the pink river dolphin). We will then continue up the Cuyabeno River to visit the Aguas Negras and Aguas Blancas Rivers before reaching the Amarumposa cabins where we will stay for two nights. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 3: After breakfast at 8 am we will hike through the primary rainforest where our guide will introduce us to various medicinal plants. We will also have the opportunity to observe native animal species. Various animal tracks will also be seen (tapir, armadillo, paca, etc.). In the afternoon we can enjoy a refreshing swim in the river and fish for piranhas. After dinner, weather and river conditions permitting, our guide will take us on a nocturnal caiman-watching canoe ride. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 4: We will continue up the river to the Laguna Grande after breakfast. Upon arrival at the next camp near the laguna we will take a short walk and swim before dinner and rest. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 5: At dawn our guide will take bird lovers on an optional trip to observe the numerous bird species that live in this region. We will return to the camp for breakfast and then continue up the river to our last camp, Cuyabeno River Lodge, to spend the night. Short walk or canoeing in native canoes upon reaching the lodge. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 6: On day six we will explore one last trail, with new opportunities to see different vegetation and animals before taking the early evening direct bus (6:30 pm) to Quito. Includes: (B), (L).
