Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Antananarivo, City of a Thousand. Discover Antananarivo and its daily life. A visit to the Old City, the palace of the Queen, will introduce you to the architecture and urbanism of this particular city.

Day 2: Crossing the highlands. Antananarivo - Antsirabe - Ambositra. Our highland crossing into the region of Betsileo brings you to the first stop in the town of Ambositra, famous for its workshops and Zafimaniry Wood Carvings. We spend the night here.

Day 3: Ambositra – Fianarantsoa. Take advantage of your morning to visit some workshops or some surrounding villages and we will hit the road in the afternoon to reach the old town of Fianarantsoa perched onto the hills with its beautiful traditional architecture reflecting the different stages of colonization.

Day 4: Train ride from Fianarantsoa to Tolongoina (near Ranomafana). An early morning wake-up will enable us to arrive at the old station to embark on the Railway Line FCE dating from the early twentieth century. Across the landscaped tropical rainforest, the train runs through the tea plantations and next to the Mandriamposty Waterfall. Each stop provides the opportunity to witness villagers’ daily life paced by the arrival of the train!

Day 5: Ranomafana National Park visit. An early morning wake up will take you in the trails of the rainforest with some park rangers to discover lemurs in their natural habitat. A visit at night is also planned to present up close animals such as Fosa (small puma), chameleons, frogs and the smallest lemur in the world: Microcebe.

Day 6: Ranomafana – Ambalavao – Ranohira (Isalo National Park). We leave the highlands and the rainforest to continue your journey towards the South with its semi-dry landscape. The first stop of the day is in the small town of Ambalavao, one of the cultural treasures with its architectural houses with verandas. There, we will visit the entirely natural Paper Factory Antemoro, an inlaid paper made from plants and flowers which is exported nowadays everywhere to make beautiful greeting cards. We will arrive in Ranohira later in the afternoon to enjoy a very unique landscape.

Day 7: Isalo National Park. A tour through a lunar landscape in this National Park. Your guide will lead you through the deep canyons, waterfalls and natural pools where you can take a swim. The day ends on a magnificent sunset to the famous window of the Isalo.

Day 8: Ranohira – Ifaty. We make a passage through Ilakaka, the city of the rush to sapphire and we will end our road trip in Ifaty. Enjoy the beach for the afternoon.

Day 9: Ifaty. Visit the Baobab forests, go on a pirogue ride with fishermen, do some whale watching (July – August). You will have plenty of activities around this Vezo village to keep yourself busy. Or simply relax, enjoy the beach. Feel free to ask us to extend your stay here or for instance make a visit to Anakao and Nosy Be.

Day 10: Ifaty – Antananarivo. From here, we will fly back to the city of Antananarivo. Take advantage of the available time remaining to browse through souvenir shops or walk in the city.
