These have been designed from selected portfolios from other operators, choosing only the very best to make up interesting and often unique safari itineraries in some of the finest game viewing areas of southern Africa. Initially concentrating on Zambia, these safaris include the top national parks of South Luangwa/Nsefu sector, Lower Zambezi, Liuwa Plains, Kasanka as well as other game areas such as the Bengweulu Swamps and or a combination of the above.
The camps (more like boutique lodges) are all in strategic, beautiful and often remote locations. Accommodation is in a mix of safari tents, reeded huts, chalets and other similar all with en-suite bathroom facilities, full “lodge’ amenities, each with cooks, guides and other crew to look after you.
Your choice can be from 4-5 night to 10 night safaris, single location or 2-3 camp safaris, bush camping or walking safaris. Transfer between camps will either be light aircraft or by road often as a game drive in itself. Or of course by foot, led by experienced guides in the case of walking safaris.
After a day in the South Luangwa clients fly to Bangweulu Swamps which remains one of Zambia special gems - with superb birding from all the water birds to the endangered wattled crane elegantly strolling around the plains. Of course the star attraction remains the extraordinary shoebill. At certain times of the year it is virtually a sure sighting. The area also hosts the endemic black lechwe, along with tsessebe and buffalo. At Kasanka there are many bird species that will be new to the safari and the sitatunga will certainly been seen at the swamp. The safari ends with a night back in South Luangwa.
Day by Day itinerary
On arrival at Lusaka International Airport, you will check-in for your flight to Mfuwe. Your guide will be waiting for you at the Mfuwe airport where he will drive you to camp. The drive is 1 hour through colourful local scenes of villages, agriculture as well as bush. The Camp has a wide view of the Luangwa River. On private land, and overlooking the South Luangwa National Park, it is ideally situated for the start of your safari. The six rooms all look out over the river and have open air bathrooms. Depending on your arrival time in the day you will enjoy a lunch looking out over the lagoon or if in the afternoon for tea and the afternoon and night game drive.
After breakfast around the camp fire you will be transferred to Mfuwe Airport for the 50 mins flight to Bangweulu Swamps, arriving at Shoebill Camp by boat from the airstrip. The search by boat and foot will start - to track down the elusive Shoebill. Back to camp for lunch and out again after tea to see the herds of antelope for which the area is famous. Dinner is simple but adequate and then an early night
Another relaxing day at Shoebill Camp with morning and evening activities birding and enjoying the surroundings. Watch from the hide at dawn or dusk as thousands of waterfowl fly overhead.
Transfer by plane to Kasanka National Park mid morning in time for lunch and then enjoy birding for the afternoon with Keyala along the Luwombwa River. With luck you may see african finfoot, ross’ lourie, pel’s fishing owl and osprey. Returning to camp for dinner and an early night or after dinner drinks around the camp fire.
A day of birding and game watching in the hope of seeing many mammal species such as Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, sable antelope, reedbuck and the rare blue monkey. Visit the sitatunga hide with its panoramic views over the Kapabi Swamp where you can spot as many as 40 sitatunga feeding at one time.
After breakfast you will transferred to the airstrip your flight back to Mfuwe. Your guide will take you on a walk or drive, possibly entering the park by boat from the camp or by the nearby pontoon. The birds and game in the area is excellent – and includes many migrating species of birds not seen in the Luangwa Valley during the dry season and also the endemic species of graffe, the Thornicroft Giraffe, not to mention the chance of seeing all the newborns!
Today you will take a flight back to Lusaka for your onward connection. Accom type: Thatched chalets and Safari tents.
