Yerevan, the rose-colored capital of Armenia, it is named as such because most of its buildings use a pink shade of stone. This is the most prominent feature of Yerevan’s cityscape. City tour cannot be conducted without a visit to Matenadaran - Armenia`s state repository of ancient manuscripts. It holds one of the world`s richest depositories of medieval manuscripts and books which span a broad range of subjects, including literature on history, philosophy, medicine, art history and cosmography in Armenian and other languages. As we get acquainted with Yerevan, we should start with the Erebouni museum and Fortress. Winemaking epoch in Armenia has begun since 782 B.C. This is the epoch when the fortress was founded. During excavations in Erebouni fortress, 18 clay vats for wine were discovered, each having more than 600-liter capacity. Continuing our trip, you will be given a chance not only see the vats and barrels of wine and brandy but also to taste some kinds of Armenian brandies and oldest wine in “NOY” factory, ARARAT Brandy company. Tsitsernakaberd - memorial and museum dedicated to 1915 Genocide. It is one of the most impressive monuments in Yerevan. Diner in one of the traditional restaurant in Yerevan. Masterclass to see how our traditional Dolma is prepared. Then you will taste it. Return back to the hotel.
Day 3: Bread making day.
Breakfast at the hotel. You will have a trip to Geghard Monastery, a unique architectural monument, founded in the fourth century, partially carved out of the adjacent mountain, surrounded by cliffs and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will continue our way to Garni, the only pagan temple in Armenia, where you can admire the unique mosaic baths and ruins of the royal palace. Lunch in a cozy atmosphere surrounded with nature. Here you will be the witness how our “traditional bread” lavash is baked in an oven/tonir. You will have a great time to feel the real taste of fresh lavash. Lavash making is loved and famous all over the country. Armenian cuisine without lavash simply does not exist. Until today this thin bread is baked using traditional Armenian way – in tonirs with dry grapevines - a traditional Armenian hearth. Return back to Yerevan.
Day 4: Fish tasting day.
After breakfast, we will visit the Lake Sevan – the Blue Pearl of Armenia. Lake Sevan is one of the high-altitude lakes in the world situated at the altitude of 1896 meters above the sea level. On clear and sunny days it looks like a piece of sky that has descended to the earth among the mountains. A visit to Sevanavank Monastery located on the Northwestern shore of Lake Sevan. According to an inscription in one of the churches, it was founded in 874 AD by Princess Mariam. The Monastery is also well known of its Seminary.
