Day 1: Fly to Guyana
Upon arrival at airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Overnight at Status hotel.
Day 2: Birding in the Botanical Gardens
Dawn will find us birding in the botanical gardens, where we may spot Brown Pelicans, Solitary Sandpipers, Neotropic Cormorants, Magnificent Frigate Birds, Herons, Long-winged Harrier, Snail (Everglade) Kite, Roadside Hawk, Rufous Crab Hawk, White-tailed Hawk, Zone-tailed Hawk, Limpkin, Southern Lapwing, Semipalamated Plover, and Laughing Gull. In the afternoon, we travel to the Mahaica River to spot the Hoatzin, Return to hotel for overnight.(B)
Day 3 and 4: Karanambu
At 7:15 am we will travel to the airport for our flight to Karanambu Ranch where we will spend 2 nights. On our guided tours we will most likely see Jabiru Stork, Great Egret, Agami Heron and Great Blue Heron, Great and the Lesser Ani . Red Cap Cardinal, Fork-tailed Flycatcher, Quail, Southern Lapwing and Savannah Hawk., Kingfishers, Green Ibis, Snowy Egrets and Boat Bill Heron. Purple Gallinule and Wattled Jacana. (BLD). Overnight at Karanambu Lodge.
Day 5 and 6: Iwokrama
After an early morning excursion on river we will depart for Iwokrama. Along the way, we are likely to spot Cocoi and Capped Herons, Black Skimmer, Pied Lapwing, Terns, Anhinga, Red-throated Caracara, Spix’s Guan, Collared Trogon, Chestnut, Golden-collared, Golden-green and Ringed, Eastern Slaty-Antshrike, and Sooty-headed Tyrannulet. Our evening boat ride could reveal several Black Caiman, Nightjars and Potoos.
Next day, we depart on a 30-minute boat ride to the foot of Turtle Mountain for a hike to its 951-foot (290-meter) summit. Red howler, black spider, and wedge-capped capuchin may be spotted here. We'll spot Black-necked Aracari, Screaming Piha, Grey-chinned Hermit, Crested Oropendola, Jabiru Storks, Roseate Spoonbills, Wood Storks, Black Skimmers, Herons, and Muscovy Ducks along nearby trails.(BLD). Overnight at Iwokram River Lodge
Day 7: Iwokrama/Georgetown
At dawn we leave for Annai while looking out for Black Curassow, Marail Guan, Gray-winged Trumpeter, White Bellbird, Pompadour Cotinga, Blue-cheeked Parrot, Rose-breasted Chat and Blue-backed Tanager. Fly to Georgetown and transfer to our hotel. This afternoon boat cruise will reveal Scarlet ibises and herons. (B). Overnight at Status hotel.
Day 8 and 9: Sloth Island
At 9:00 am we depart Georgetown and travel to Parika. Next, we join a boat to Sloth Island. in 2014 the Hapry Eagle was spotted here. In the afternoon, we will visit Parrot Island to see hundreds of parrots as they come in to roost. Next day, we will explore the island trails and nearby Amerindian village for Rufescent Tiger and Cocoi Heron, Great Egret, Green Ibis, White-necked Jacobin, Rufous-throated Sapphire, Black-eared Fairy, Crimson Topaz, White-necked Puffbird, Pied Puffbird, Curve-billed Scythebill, Cayenne Jay, Green-tailed and Paradise Jacamar, Green Aracari, Guiana Toucanette and Channel-bill Toucan(BLD). Overnight at Sloth Island Nature Resort
Day 10: Departure
Depart Sloth Island after breakfast and continue to Georgetown. Transfer to airport for flight home. (B)
