Visit Galle – Visit to Museum, Dutch Reformed church, visit Thalpe – Stunning Beach to relax, visit Hikkaduwa -Exquisite pristine beaches to crash-out and a visit to Colombo – Souvenir/cloths shopping and city tour
Days 1-2: Upon arrival at the Colombo International Airport – you will be greeted by a representative and taken to your hotel in Galle via the new Southern Highway!
Galle is an exquisite city filled with colonial Dutch and Portuguese history and architecture and once a major port. The imposing Fort is a tourist's treasure; it houses the national Maritime Museum, the National museum and the more recent (1938) lighthouse. Galle is also famous for its lace, is filled with priceless crafts and antique treasures like jewellery, ceramics, and Dutch period furniture and brass work. The little city of Galle is a fascinating stop, not just for historians, but for anyone interested in learning more about Sri Lanka's varied foreign influences.
In Galle we visit The Dutch Museum: The Dutch Museum is housed in a restored Dutch mansion of the time contains paintings, prints, documents, furniture and ceramics from the Dutch colonial era. Dutch Reformed Church: Built by a Dutch Army officer at the site of a previous Portuguese church and completed in 1754 the church is situated close to the new entrance to the fort. The church contains record of marriages since 1748 and baptism.
We enjoy a leisurely walk through the cobbled stone pathways of the massive Dutch influenced fort, which also is a UNESCO World Heritage Site before we set out to our hotel in Thalpe, situated just 8 km east of Galle. 2 nights at a hotel in Thalpe - Meal Plan: HB
Day 3: Today after breakfast, we drive you to one of the most famous beach city of Sri Lanka, Hikkaduwa. Famous for its lively nightlife, Hikkaduwa also has some of the best restaurants outside of Colombo. That’s why we picked this beach out of all the beaches in Sri Lanka as this short break is for you to crash out, take a break from life’s stress, kick off your shoes and relax and have some fabulous food. If you are in search of great expanses of beautiful golden sandy beach to crash out on, you are on the right beach! Overnight at a hotel in Hikkaduwa - Meal Plan: HB
Day 4: We leave to Colombo on the normal Hikkaduwa to Colombo route, instead of taking the Southern highway. This gives us an opportunity to visit a famous Turtle Hatchery in Kosgoda. If you are taking a late evening flight and we highly recommend you to do so: we can take a break and include some shopping in Colombo too, before we transfer you to the Airport.
Turtle Hatchery Kosgoda: Blink and you would miss the small hamlet of Kosgoda. Nestled between the main road and the beautiful sandy beach Kosgoda is famous for its turtle hatchery, operated by the Wild Life Protection Society of Sri Lanka.First established in 1981 to protect Sri Lanka's turtles population from the pressure placed upon their natural environment by man. The hatcheries pay fishermen for the turtle eggs collected at night along the long sandy beach.
Tourist are encouraged to visit the hatchery and are shown large tanks filled with filtered sea water where newly born, lively turtle hatchlings are kept; (this provides a rare opportunity to see these fascinating creatures at close quarters). After being fed the hatchlings are taken to the sea and released when they are two to four days old, where possible they are released during the safer hours of darkness - although October to April is the main laying season, some eggs can be found at Kosgoda throughout the year. The Marine Conservation Society has joined hands with local fishermen in Sri Lanka and introduced a turtle friendly fishing hook in an effort to protect the island's endangered species of sea turtles.
Colombo: commercial hub and capital of Sri Lanka is throbbing city that reflects the trade culture of the past and showcases some historic colonial buildings. The city served as the principal seaport in the past and it continues to do so. But the historical sites replete with colonial architectural marvels and ruins constitute the major attractions drawing thousands of domestic and foreign travelers every year.
In Colombo we take you for a quick city tour/drive before you can opt to enjoy a fair bargain by shopping at some of the reputed shopping malls such as ODEL, House of Fashion, Cotton Collection or local designer or Bangkok cloths at the Arena, Romafourfor clothes at bargain price. Sri Lanka is the preferred manufacturer for foreign labels like Victoria Secret, Banana Republic, even Bebe, Mango or Zara cloths - They are either rejected shipments or a result of surplus production, a tiny anomaly, yet a bargain for any tourist who will purchase these cloths at a fraction of the price compared to abroad.
After shopping and lunch we leave to the airport and bid farewell to you our Royal Guest. We hope you will take back memories of a beautiful island with fabulous culture and warm and friendly people.
