Day 1: Lhasa (No meal included). Accommodation: Lhasa Tsedang Hotel (4 star). Service: picking up service. Upon your arrival at Lhasa Gonggar International Airport, you will be greeted by your local English-speaking tour guide at the “gate” of luggage claim area with a pick-up card and be led to the car. Or if you take train ride, and our tour guide will meet you at the railway station. It needs 1 hour from the airport to the hotel and half an hour started from the train station. On the way, the tour guide will introduce the Tibetan customs and local situations. He or she will tell you some travel dos & don’ts.
Upon your arrival at the hotel, the tour guide will assist you to check in. Activities are on your own but suggested to have a good rest at the hotel to get adapt to the high altitude. If your healthy situation is Ok, then you can take a taxi to the Potala Palace Square to appreciate the Potala at night. Compared with daytime view, it is more mysterious.
Day 2: Lhasa (B, L). Accommodation: Lhasa Tsedang Hotel (4 star). Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel and then head for Potala Palace, the landmark of Lhasa.It was initiated by Songtsan Gambo (the dominator of Tibet in Tufan Dynasty) to greet his two wives Chizun Princess from Nepal and Wencheng Princess from Tang Dynasty. It was rebuilt in 17th century and enlarged by generations of Dalai lamas. For years, it was the residence of Dalai Lamas. There are plenty of precious treasures inside of the palace, such as murals, thangka, Buddha statues and pagodas of Dalai Lamas. In order to protect the Potala Palace, please understand the number of tourists each day is limited and each tourist only has 1 hour for visiting inside of the palace. Standing at the foot of palace, you cannot help applauding how magnificent it is!
Later, you will be sent to the Norbulingka, the typical classical garden in Tibetan style. Compared with the Potala Palace, it is like a summer palace of Dalai Lamas. After lunch, proceed to the Drepung Monastery. Comfortable shoes are suggested since you will have a lot of walking inside of the monastery. The highlight of this monastery is the meaningful murals. On Shoton festival each year, a grand ceremony of exposing Buddha to the sun will be held here.
Day 3: Lhasa (B, L). Accommodation: Lhasa Tsedang Hotel (4 star). Today, continue to visit different monasteries. After breakfast, you will be sent to the Jokhang Monastery which was built in 647 by the Tufan Dynasty (at the same time China is in Tang Dynasty). As one of the world cultural site, you will find the life-size statue of Sakyamuni in 12 year’s old which is brought by Wencheng Princess from Tang Dynasty. The founder of Buddhism, he stands there to accept the pray and worship from his pious disciples. With a history of more than 1300 years, the Jokhang Temple owns paramount position among Tibetan Buddhism. It is the most splendid Tofan architecture full of Tibetan, Tang, Nepal and Indian design style. Here, you will see many prayers gathering and starting to kowtowing or circling.
Later, visit Barkhor Street outside of the Jokhang Temple. Originally, it is a road stamped out by the Buddhists’ circling and now it is a business street for buying souvenirs. Enjoy your free time here. After lunch, proceed to Sera Monastery which was completed in 1434. Highlight of visiting here is the sutra-debate. Around 3:00 pm, in the courtyard, under the shadow of trees, lamas are divided into groups to start the impassioned sutra-debate. Some are sitting while some are standing. Besides the long speech, lamas always make some gestures with messages. You might not understand what they are talking about but definitely you will be attracted by their devotion. Be sent back to your hotel.
Day 4: Lhasa - Nyingchi (B, L). Route: Lhasa - Dagzê County -Meldrogongkar County - Milha Mountain - Bajietang Grassland - Nyang River - Gongbo’gvamda County - Kadinggou Waterfall - Bayi town (the main town in Nyingchi area). Attractions to be visited: Basom Tso Lake & Kadinggou Water fall. AMSL: 3650 M—2900 M. Distance of driving in total: 490 km, 7.5-8 hrs with asphalt roads. Comments of the route: a long journey but with good road condition, with amazing and incredible views along the road, you can get off to take photos wherever and whenever but make sure the driver and tour guide think it is safe. Accommodation: Nyingchi Shangbala Hotel (3 star). After finishing your tour part in Lhasa, today, you are going to explore the southeast of Tibet. Your destination is Nyingchi, known well for its natural views and lower altitude. Setting off after your breakfast, driving via two counties and then arrive at Milha Mountain.The altitude of Milha Mountain is 5013 M and you can take photos on the top and then continue proceeding down the mountain. On the way, you will have Bajietang grassland and Nyang River accompany with you. The big rock inside of the Nyang River shows the hard-bitten willpower. After lunch at the foot of Milha Mountain, you will be sent to the Basom Tso Lake which is a plateau lake surrounded by the virgin forest. The water of the lake mirrored all the blue sky, white cloud and green trees and snow-white mountains around and there is no word to describe the incredible views in front of you. It is not only a simple lake but also a holy one as for Tibetan Buddhists. There is a temple on the island inside of the lake. Speaking of the temple, it was built 1500 years ago. Kadinggou Waterfall which composed of two waterfalls is located in the Kadinggou Valley. The miracle of this waterfall is that tourists will see a natural Buddha behind the flowing water. After that, be sent to the main town of Nyingchi directly.
Day 5: Nyingchi (B, L). Route: Bayi Town - Segrila Mountain - Namjagbarwa Peak - Lulang Forest Sea - Pailong - Tangmai - Guxiang - Bome. Attractions to be visited: Lulang Forest Sea. AMSL: 2900 M—4500 M—2750 M. Distance of driving in total: 380 km (340 km Asphalt road and 40 km bumpy road) 6-7 hrs. Accommodation: the best one in local. Start from Bayi town, today, you are going to cross the other high mountain named Segrila Mountain (4702 m). It is said that the Segrila is a palette split by the god. You can find many colors on this mountain. If it is mid-April to the end of the June, you will find azaleas blanketing the mountain. After 2.5 hrs, you will arrive at the observation deck. Get off the car and take out the camera to enjoy the views of the Namjagbarwa Peak (7782 m). According to the National geographic magazine in China, it ranks top 1 among all the mountains of China. And for Tibetans, it is the father of all the snow mountains. The Yarlung Tsangpo River is a jade band surround the mountain and flows far away.
Continue driving and you will arrive at Lulang Forest Sea. Lulang in Tibetan language, it means the Valley of King Dragon. Dense spruces and pines, grassland with thousands of wild flowers, wooden inns and bridges, dotted Tibetan villages, a natural picture is formed here. Enjoy your lunch at Lulang Town.
In the afternoon, pass the Pailong Menba Ethnic County and Tongmai. The soil of Tongmai area is soft and if it rains or snows, sometimes mud-rock flow will happen and that is why Tongmai is called the natural barrier. After this bumpy ride, you will arrive at Bome, an ideal place for photographers and painters.
Day 6: Nyingchi (B, L). Route: Bome Zhamu Town-Songzong Town - Zhongba County - Midui Glacier - Rawu Lake. Attractions to be visited: Midui Glacier & Rawu Lake. AMSL: 2750 M-3900 M. Distance of driving in total: 150 km, 4 hrs. Accommodation: the best one in local. After breakfast at the hotel, you will be sent to Rawu. The road condition from Bome to Zhongba County is good; all are in asphalt road surface except the bumpy road from Zhongba to Rawu. After around 2 hrs driving, you will arrive at Midui Glacier, the most beautiful one in China, which is a confluence of two world-level ice falls. There are two ways that you can get close to see the glacier after you arrive at the Midui Village. One is riding horse and the other is hiking. (If riding horse, the fee is around USD 18-33 per person). The single way distance is around 2.5 km but you can still go nearer by hiking if you are interested in. Not only the snow-white ice but also the green of the virgin forest will fulfill of your eyes. In a high place, crystal-clear glacial basins and cliff are gleaming; in a lower place, the glacier spreads and extends into the lush tropical evergreen broad-leaved forest. How perfect matched views of snow mountains, glacier, forest and lakes!
Continue driving to Rawa Lake, the headstream of Parlung Zangbo. The cause of the Rawa Lake is a result of extrusion by three mountain ranges. More than ten Tibetan villages are distributed around the upper and lower Rawa Lake. The materials of their houses are made from tree bark or thatch. So it is pretty indigenous.
Day 7: Nyingchi (B, L). Attractions to be visited: Cuomujiri Lake (a moraine lake). AMSL: 3900 m - 2750 m - 4500 m - 2900 m. Accommodation: Nyingchi Shangbala Hotel (3 star). Today is the journey back to Nyingchi. You will take the same way back and enjoy the views along the road. The highlight of the tour will be in the afternoon. You will pay a visit to the Cuomujiri Lake—a moraine lake, which is located in the northwest of Bayi Town. In Tibetan language, it means the tear of a Bodhisattva. With many legends related to Bodhisattva, the lake is regarded respectfully as the holy place in Gongbu area. Visit Gongbu Manor, site of ancient temples and Potala Holy Mountain. Be sent back to your hotel.
Day 8: Nyingchi (B). Today is the last day of your Tibet tour. But before your leaving, there is still one amazing place you need to see on your way to the Nyingchi airport. After breakfast at your hotel, you will be sent to the junction of the Yarlung Tsangpo River and Nyang River. In Tibetan language, river is called “qu” and Nyang River is considered as the mother river in Gongbu area. Respectfully, Tibetans call it “Mother Qu”, means the tear of the Goddess. Here you will see the clear Nyang River and muddy Yarlung flowing together. End of your fabulous and unforgettable Tibet tour!
