Cycling Bavarian Lakes

You will cycle at the edge of the Bavarian alps where you will find many lakes and mountains. This country is also called “the blue land”. You will start your cycle tour in the former Olympic city of Garmisch Partenkirchen next to the highest mountain in Germany – the Zugspitze.

You will follow the alpine river Isar out of the mountain to the well known spa city of Bad Tölz. You will see the real Bavaria with little villages, fantastic monastery, lovely lakes and hills. Not to forget the Bavarian foot and beer which you will enjoy in the beer gardens which you will find almost everywhere.

Characteristic: You will follow rivers and lakes but in between there will be little hills to pass over. So we expect a good basic fitness to enjoy this cycle tour in Bavaria.

Day 1: Arrival Garmisch Partenkirchen. Overnight Garmisch Partenkirchen

Day 2: Garmisch Partenkirchen – train or cycle to Mittenwald – Isar river valley – Bad Tölz, 59 km. You may take the train upwards to the border city of Mittenwald where you will follow the young Isar river out of the mountain. Enjoy the partly wild-green river passing the village of Grün and Wallgau. Along the Sylvenstein reservoir you will come to the ski resort of Lengries and the cycle trail will start running almost next to the river to city of Bad Tölz with a fantastic market place. Overnight Bad Tölz.

Day 3: Bad Tölz – Tegernsee – Bad Tölz, 45 km (or to Munich). Along the long distance cycle trail Lake Constance – Lake Königssee you will come to famous lake in Bavaria, the Tegernsee. Rich people love this lake and half of Munich is going there on the weekends if they will get a room. The lake is surrounded by mountains and from Gmünd you will have a wondful view. On the return trail you will pass a monastery with a beer garden on the right place! Optional Tour to Munich! Overnight Bad Tölz.

Day 4: Tag: Bad Tölz – Lake Kochelsee – Murnau, 45 km. Passing by the former king’s spa resort of Heilbrunn you will come to the famous monastery in the village of Benediktbeuern. This monastery has a long history (1250 years) and part of it are free to visit. Of course they also offer guided tours. Afterwards continue to lake Kochelsee passing moorlands with a lot of flowers and plants. Overnight Murnau.

Day 5: Tag: Murnau – Train Tutzing – Lake Starnberger – Murnau, 45 km. The village of Murnau is situated next to the lake Staffelsee and we offer you 2 tours today. Take the train to the Lake Starnberg where you return to Murnau passing the „blue land“ with many little lakes. Or you do a roundtrip cycle tour in the blue land. Overnight Murnau.

Day 6: Murnau – Garmisch Partenkirchen, 35 bis 50 km. Cycling through the large moorland around Murnau will be wonderful. Afterwards you will follow the river Loisach back into the mountains. Don’t worry you mainly follow the river and the ascnets won’t be large. If you like you can do a detour to the Lake Eibsee where the mountain railway goes up to Mount Zugspitze! Overnight Garmisch Partenkirchen.

Day 7: Departure from Garmisch Partenkirchen or book an additional night for an excursion to Mount Zugspitze.

Airfare is not included in the tour price.
