Tell me what you want from a vacation spot and I will bring you to Costa Rica for it. Why? Because Costa Rica is beautiful like an island paradise. Located in central America, Costa Rica is a land based country, geographically with oceans on both sides . It also has Lake Arenal, a very large freshwater lake bordering a mountainous area.

There is city life for dancing, gambling, fine dining and that type of amenity in and around the centrally located city of San Jose, but the greatest attraction is the amazing terrain with oceanfront beaches on both the east coast and west coast and volcanos, mountains, and an amazing tropical rain forest in the north central area.

Itinerary:
Day 1: Aurola Holiday Inn B-L-D. Upon arrival to International Airport, our driver will pick you up and will take you to Aurola Holiday Inn for overnight. Centrally located in downtown San Jose, close to different businesses, museums, restaurants, shopping and nightlife, the hotel provides the perfect location for travelers who are seeking to visit or do business in the city.

Day 2: Evergreen or Mawamba Hotel B-L-D. Around 6:30 a.m we leave your hotel in San Jose early in the morning. Admire the biodiversity of an astonishing protected area in Costa Rica as we drive by Braulio Carrillo National Park, a primary forest in 95% of its extension. Have a taste of our delicious Costa Rican breakfast en route. Be our special guest in a banana processing and packing plant and learn more about one of Costa Rica’s prime products (subject to availability). Board a comfortable boat upon arrival to the port and let this extraordinarily exotic paradise enchant you, as you travel along the Tortuguero Canals.

Day 3: Evergreen or Mawamba B-L-D. 6:30 a.m. Optional morning tour: Enjoy nature at its best as you undertake a journey through the canals, a network of navigable waterways of great scenic beauty crosses the park from southeast to northwest. The canals and marshes are the habitat of 7 species of tortoise. They also provide shelter to the endangered West Indian manatee (Trichchus manatus) and the rare crocodile (Crocodylus acutus). Back to the lodge for breakfast. Get ready to hike Tortuguero Hill or travel along the well-known Tortuguero Canals and have the experience of your life in this unique paradise of magnificent flora and fauna. After lunch, take your time to enjoy our private trails, ride a boat through the canals, swim at our turtle-shaped swimming pool, or just relax. Dinner and overnight. Boat Tour.

Day 4: Puerto Viejo/Namuwoki Lodge. After breakfast, transfer to Caño Blanco. A van will take you to El Ceibo Restaurant where you will enjoy a succulent lunch. After lunch, a driver will pick you up and will drive you for around 3 hours to the south Caribbean Coast where you will stay 2 nights, 3 days at Namuwoki Lodge or similar.

Day 5: Cahuita Tour. Breakfast included. Today you will enjoy an amazing tour at the beautiful Cahuita National Park. The tour start with a hiking tour, followed by a snorkeling tour. In Cahuita, the main attractions are the beach, the reef, and the paths along which morpho butterflies, toucans and three-toed sloths appear. But a lesser-known phenomenon is no less captivating: the migration of raptors. Three million birds fly overhead between September and November, forming vórtices of eagles, hawks, and owls, spiraling in search of updrafts.

The skies of Cahuita, Puerto Viejo and the entire Caribbean seaboard are filled with 17 species of raptors that migrate from the U.S. and Canada, coasting across the continent on termal currents. The plains narrow at this point, giving birds the choice of taking the Pacific route or passing between the Caribbean coast and the Talamanca Mountain Range.

Day 6: Bocas del Toro, Panamá. After breakfast, a shuttle transportation service will pick you up and will take you to Sixaola, the Costa Rican border with Panamá. Here you must show your passport and your international flight itinerary. After doing the necessary border arrangements (paying an exit and entry tax) you will continue the trip to Almirante Harbour where a boat ride is offered to Colon Island at Bocas del Toro.

From here you need to take another short boat ride (not included) to your hotel, Eclypse de Mar or you may choose, Al Natural Resort, for those wanting to live a more natural experience. Enjoy 2 nights, 3 days stat at the hotel of your selection. Breakfast included at Eclypse de Mar, all meals at Al Natural Resort.

Day 9: Pacuare White Water Rafting - Arenal Volcano. This trip gives you the ultimate blend of wilderness exposure and excitement. Rio Pacuare is world famous for its pristine beauty. Being a true river gorge it is flanked by step green walls. Waterfalls cascade into the river from both sides as colorful, tropical birds fly over your head. The scenery of ocean, rainforest and sky is stunning. It is just part of the special mix of energy and magic that has enchanted and made La Mariposa such a beloved place to thousands of guests throughout the years.

Days 12-13: Manuel Antonio Park. One of these days you will enjoy an exciting hiking tour at one of the most beautiful parks of Costa Rica, Manuel Antonio Park. The first one is the tombolo at Punta Catedral. The second feature is the blowhole at Puerto Escondido, the third one is Punta Serrucho and the fourth one is the pre-Columbian underwater turtle trap at the western tip of Manuel Antonio Beach. The main habitats in the park are primary forest, secondary forest, mangrove swamps, which cover 18 hectares, and small herbaceous swamps and open water lagoons scattered throughout the interior. The park houses a variety of wildlife, including 109 species of mammals and 184 species of birds. Back to your hotel. Free afternoon to enjoy at the beach. Overnight.

Day 14: Drakebay – Osa Peninsula. Breakfast. Around 9:00 a.m shuttle land transfer to Sierpe where you will take a boat to Drake. Lodging at either Aguila de Osa, Drakebay Getaway or Casa Corcovado.

During the 3 nights in this area you will enjoy the 2 main tours which are: Hiking tour at Corcovado National Park and Snorkeling tour at Caño Island. As one of the last remaining areas of Costa Rica still untouched by large developments, vacationing in Drake Bay is a truly unique experience. With only a few hundred locals living in the main town of Agujitas, Drake Bay is a hidden gem. The locals in Drake Bay are some of the warmest and generous people you will ever meet, many of whom have lived in the area with their families since the 1970’s.

Day 15: Corcovado National Park. Tours during your stay will be arranged according to weather conditions. You will have Corcovado National Park and Caño Island. San Pedrillo is the closest Corcovado National Park Ranger Station to Drake Bay, located 1:30 minute boat ride from Drake Bay. This beautiful area offers possible sightings of dolphins and other marine and aquatic marine life, passing an island nesting spot for the Brown Booby. Our arrival at the beach location of the Corcovado National Park is a wet landing, so bring your sandals in addition to sturdier footwear for the trails through the National Park. Our bilingual naturalist guide will lead a 3 hour hike through the primary and secondary forest, locating and explaining the extensive rainforest wildlife and flora. The rich biological diversity of the Corcovado National Park is astounding, and sightings may include as many as 4 types of monkeys, as well as coatis, sloths, anteaters, and much more. Bird lovers will be enchanted by a wide variety of birds, including tanagers, flycatchers, kingfishers, manakins, trogons, crested guans, and spectacular scarlet macaws and toucans.

Day 16: Caño Island. Caño Island is located 12 nautical miles from Drake Bay. Departure for this tour is at 8.00 am. During the scenic boat ride, which lasts approximately 1 ½ hrs , enjoy mangrove forest frequent sightings of dolphins, marine birds, as well as - in season - whales, false orcas and sea turtles. The 600 acre island is a significant historical archaeological site for Costa Rica, where two of the miraculous and mysterious perfectly round spheres from the pre-Colombian era were discovered along with other historical items. Caño Island is an ideal spot for snorkeling, swimming, and relaxing. Two trails are available for light hiking, the first leading to the site of many of the archaeological discoveries, where a few representative artifacts still remain, and the second to a beautiful lookout on the south side of the island. Aquatic life around the island is spectacular, and snorkelers will find a broad and colorful spectrum of Pacific Coast reef fish – triggerfish, trumpetfish, damselfish, parrotfish, angelfish, puffers, among many others -- as well as rays and sea turtles.
