In this 7 day tour we are going to discover Gondar and Moyale, which combines Portuguese, Indian and local architectural. Be mesmerized by unique wildlife of Great Rift Valley lakes, and Senkelle Wildlife Sanctuary. We'll visit Bale Mountains National Park for best and endemic wildlife views.
Day 1: Drive to 10000 Flamingos Lodge.
After having a breakfast you will drive to Lake Chitu on the new express highway and then via Modjo and Ziway through a part of the Rift Valley. You can eventually make a stop at the shores of Lake Ziway to see many aquatic birds. A nice place for lunch is Haile Resort by lake Ziway. There is a swampy area in front of the Resort which is habitat for many birds. Upon arrival at Lake Chitu check in to lodge. Then after the brief break, you can enjoy the view on lake Chitu with its many flamingoes, and eventually, make a tour into the Park to see lake Abiata and Shalla and some wildlife such as ostrich and warthog. You can bath in natural hot springs and even swim in lake Chitu. Overnight stay in 1000 flamingos lodge. 10000 flamingo’s lodge is situated on lake Chitu where thousands of flamingoes reside.
Day 2: Visit Lake Chitu, drive to Senkelle Wildlife Sanctuary and drive to Awassa.
Early morning (preferably before breakfast) you can make a walking-bird watching trip with a specialized guide in the surroundings of the lodge and lake Chitu. Then back to the lodge & have a breakfast. After breakfast drive to Senkelle Wildlife Sanctuary (40Km, gravel appr. 1 hour from Lake Chitu)
You will arrive late in the afternoon in Awassa/Hawassa (90 Km from Senkelle approx. 2 hours drive). Check in at the hotel. Relax and stay in the hotel. Overnight stay in Oasis International Hotel.
Day 3: Drive to Dinsho.
After having an early breakfast first you will visit the Fish Market in Awassa. Then drive to Bale Park, Dinsho (150 Km, app. 3 h from Awassa). On arrival finish the park formalities. Check into the lodge. You will have lunch at the lodge. After lunch and a brief break walk around Dinsho in the forests around the Headquarter where different animals such as the impressive mountain Nyala, Menelik’s bushbuck, and warthog can be observed. You can see some of the animals even near to your sleeping room. Overnight stay in Dinsho lodge.
Day 4: Morning walk to Gaysay or Web Valley, afternoon drive to Goba.
This morning you can choose to walk web river valley area (you can drive partly by car up to the beautiful Finch Abera waterfall). In this area, you have a chance to see the Ethiopian wolf or Gaysay grasslands which are best to spot antelope families such as Mountain Nyala, Menelik Bushbuck, and Bohor reedbuck. Late in the afternoon drive to Goba (40 Km from Dinsho) for an overnight stay. Check in at the hotel. Overnight stay at Wabe Shebele hotel, Goba.
Day 5: Excursion on Sanetti Plateau.
After having a breakfast you will drive to “highest road of Africa” to Sanetti plateau. Make a walking trip on Sanetti plateau(45 minutes’ drive from Goba) to enjoy the extraordinary landscape and observe the Ethiopian Wolf and plants such as red hot poker and giant lobelia. There is a walking track of app. from Sanetti campsite via Crane Lakes and Mount Tullu Demtu back to the main road. Overnight stay at Wabe Shebele hotel, Goba.
Day 6: Drive to Hara Langano Lodge.
Early morning drive after breakfast takes you to Langano via (the “capital” of the Rastafarians) and part of the Rift Valley to beautiful lake Langano. Upon arrival check in to lodge. You will have lunch at the lodge. Afternoon walk around the beautiful compound with forest to observe different birds (ask for the lodge for specialized birding guide) and/or you can rent a kayak, motorboat, sailing boat, mountain bike or horse. Overnight stay in Harar Langano lodge.
Day 7: Morning in the lodge, afternoon drive back to Addis and night flight back home.
After having breakfast spend the morning in the lodge, enjoying bird watching and nature. In the afternoon depending on your time of departure, you can choose to drive the same route as on Day 1 or take the alternative quiet asphalt route (which is 30 km. more) via Butajira and the beautiful countryside of the Gurage people. You can also visit the Tiya Stella field (UNESCO World Heritage site). You will arrive in Addis Abebaba late in the afternoon, where you can make also last minute shopping. Then you will have a farewell dinner in Addis, drive to the airport.
