Bale Mountains National Park was established primarily for the protection of the Mountain Nyala and Ethiopian Wolf., and other features including spectacular scenery, an extensive Afro-alpine plateau and moist highland forest.
Simien Mountains National Park was primarily created to conserve Walia Ibex and other endemic species. Its scenic value, probably the most rugged in Africa, also formed the backbone of the concept for conservation of the area. These unique wildlife and breath-taking views on a landscape has further led the park to the recognition as a World Natural Heritage Site in 1978 by UNESCO.
Day 1: Flight to Gondar and Visit the Fassiladas Castles.
Early morning, a short flight will take you to Gondar. Upon arrival, you will be met by our tour guides, to a hotel where you will check in and after a brief break, you will have lunch. Then, you will visit the Royal Castles and the Bath of Emperor Fasiledes (the bath is filled with water for the important Timkat (epiphany) ceremony once a year. You will continue your visit to Debre Birhan Selassie Church (Trinity at the Mount of Light. In the evening, you will get back to the hotel and spend the night there. Overnight stay in Goha hotel.
Day 2: Drive to Simien Mountains National Park.
You will have breakfast & drive to Debark (100 Km from Gonder) finish formalities at the Head Quarter of the park at Debarq and continue to drive to another 20 km then make a short walk/trek and spend the day visiting the Simien Mountains National Park (registered by UNESCO as a world heritage site, with endemic and mammals, birds, natural vegetation, and wonderful landscape). Later in the early evening, back to the lodge and check-in for overnight. Then you will have dinner and stay the night in the lodge. Overnight stay at Simien lodge.
Day 3: Drive to Chenek and back to Gonder.
Right after breakfast, an early morning drive will take you to Chenek (25 Km from Simien Lodge). Chenek is the third campsite that offers superb views across to the opposite escarpment and the prominent peak of Imet Gogo (3,926 meters above sea level). Later in the late afternoon drive back to Gonder. Check in to the hotel and spend the night there. Overnight stay at Goha hotel.
Day 4: Flight to Lalibela.
After breakfast, a short flight will take you to Lalibela. Upon arrival, you will be met by our tour guides, drive by a minivan to a hotel where you will check and rest for few minutes. Your first visit will be to the eleven Rock-hewn Monolithic (carved from a single rock) Churches of Lalibela (UNESCO World Heritage site, with magnificent architecture and paintings inside the churches). In the evening you will get back to the hotel, rest, have dinner and relax. Overnight stay in Panoramic View hotel, Lalibela.
Day 5: Flight back to Addis Ababa and flight to Dire Dawa – Harar.
After a relaxed breakfast, a short flight will bring you back to Addis Ababa. You will arrive in Addis Ababa midday/early afternoon. Check in again for the flight to Dire Dawa. You will have lunch in the airport terminal. In the afternoon you will take a short flight to Dire Dawa where a vehicle waiting for you at the airport for a pick up to Harar (50km from Dire Dawa). In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night at the hotel. Overnight stay in Ras hotel or similar accommodation in Harar.
Day 6: Full day Visit Harar.
After a relaxed breakfast, you will visit the walled city of Jegol, the house of Arthur Rimbaud (a French poet who lived 1880’s in Harar), Emperor Haile Selassie home (where he was born and raised) and Harari Cultural Museum. Early in the evening, you will visit man feeding wild hyenas. In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night at the hotel. Overnight stay in Ras hotel or similar accommodation in Harar.
Day 7: Drive to Dire Dawa - flight to Addis Ababa – drive to Langano.
You will have breakfast & drive to Dire Dawa (50 Km from Harar). And check in for, a short flight (take the first flights that usually takes 10:00 AM) back to Addis Ababa. After lunch and a brief break, you will be driven to Langano (approx. 200Km from Langano), where on your way make a stop on Lake Ziway to visit aquatic birds. You will have lunch in Ziway. En route, you will visit Lake Abijatta-Shala National Park, Lake Shala (a very deep crater lake - over 260 meters deep) and Lake Abijatta (a soda lake with thousands of flamingos). Your arrival in Langano will be early in the evening where you will check into a resort. You will have dinner and stay the night at the resort. Overnight stay at Sabana Beach Resort.
Day 8: Drive to Dinsho, Bale Mountains National Park Head Quarter.
In the morning after breakfast, you will drive to Dinsho (150 Km from Langano). Upon arrival, you will do all the requirements for short easy trekking at the Bale Mountains National Park HQ. You will have lunch in the bush. After a brief break, you will have time to make a short hike along the northern part of the park. Later late in the afternoon drive to Goba (40 Km from Dinsho) for overnight stay. On arrival, you will check into a hotel. In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night at the hotel. Overnight stay in Wabe Shebelle Hotel, Goba.
Day 9: Excursion/Day trip to Sanetti Plateau.
In the morning, you will have breakfast and drive to the Sanetti Plateau (20 Km from Goba, the altitude of 4,000 meters, with Afro-alpine Moor land, beautiful wild alpine scenery where you will see the Ethiopian Wolves). In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night at the hotel. Overnight stay in Wabe Shebelle Hotel, Goba.
Day 10: Drive back to Addis Ababa via Bekoji – Assela, and departure.
After breakfast, you will be driving to Addis Ababa (445 Km from Goba). You will stop for lunch at Assela. You will arrive in Addis Ababa late afternoon where you will do some shopping for souvenirs. Finally, you will be taken to a farewell dinner to Ethiopian (Habesha 2000 or YOD Abyssinia) traditional restaurant where you will taste Ethiopian food and drinks and a live music and dance. Then depending on your scheduled flight; you will be transferred out to Bole International Airport for the return flight back home.
