Costa Rica is a natural playground for outdoor activities and thrilling adventures. Discover the lush and pristine forests, rivers and volcanoes of this enchanted land while exploring them on our active, safe and fascinating Costa Rica Mini-Adventure package. Soar over a pristine rainforest on a thrilling zip-line tour, raft a tropical river, hike on lava fields at the foot of a volcano, and search for nocturnal animals on a night safari. Wake up to the sounds of the rainforest and admire Arenal Volcano’s perfect cone from your hotel balcony before going to sleep.

Day 1: San Jose – Tapirus Lodge: Fly over the forest.
Pick up at your hotel in San Jose and transfer to Tapirus Lodge, ensconced in a private 1,200-acre reserve adjacent to pristine Braulio Carrillo National Park. Once in the reserve, on your way to our main building, you may see some adventuring guests soaring over the river on one of our zip lines. Don’t fret, you will be there too. But before that, how about taking a guided walk along our paved forest trails or visiting our terrariums and butterfly farm?

After lunch and some down time, the time has come to experience the forest in a fast and exciting way: the zip-line tour. Soar through and over the forest on 10 lines on one of the safest operations in the world: we feature double cables, double harness, platforms with hand railings, and controlled-breaking system so you don’t have to grab the cable to break. This evening, after dinner, you can join our guides for a night safari in search of colorful frogs, bats, and other nocturnal animals.

Day 2: A day in the woods
Free day to enjoy our pristine rainforest reserve. We recommend the guided aerial tram tour for a fascinating lesson on the forest and chance to see some of its residents or, for more adventurous souls, a day of jungle trekking, where you will go deep into the rainforest, take a refreshing dip in the Corinto River, and search for tapirs, capuchin and howler monkeys, sloth, coati, peccary, agouti, anteater, tayras, morpho butterflies, hummingbirds and more than 500 bird species.

Day 3: Rafting the Sarapiqui River en route to Arenal
Breakfast at the lodge and transfer to nearby Sarapiqui where our rafting operation is located. We will head for the put-in point, where we don vests and helmets while listening to a safety orientation. Then it is miles of thrilling class III rapids complete with stunning jungle scenery and chances to watch wildlife including toucans, kingfishers, herons, tanagers, iguanas, sloth, monkeys, and bright green Jesus Christ lizards (you know, the funny ones that run over water). After the 2-hour trip, we will freshen up, change cloths, and head for Arenal.

Days 4-5: Arenal
A mighty volcano towers over lush green pastures and plantations of yucca and papaya; rushing waters heated by the volcano are channeled into natural hot springs, offering a relaxing experience after a day of explorations. A natural playground made for both children and children at heart, Arenal offers an endless array of possibilities to explore the pristine surroundings. For starters, on our first morning in Arenal, we will be joining a naturalist guide for a fascinating hike on lava fields and forest trails at the foot of the volcano.

The rest of your stay, you may continue exploring the area on horseback, mountain bikes, ATVs, soaring over the canopy, or paddling down a river. If you don’t feel playful, you may always join a relaxing wildlife observation tour, soothe your muscles in the hot springs, indulge in a spa treatment, or just sit down in your hotel balcony and watch the mighty volcano. Time to rumble!

Day 6: Return home, energized and wiser
Time to bid farewell to this magnificent land. Your driver will take you to the airport in time for your departing flight. We hope you have enjoyed your stay with us and look forward to hosting you again in the near future. Safe journeys…
