Panama is a stunning destination with a rich biodiversity and some of the most romantic spots in the Americas. You can think of your EcoMoon as a moderately active, romantic, and very fun vacation where you will be snorkeling in the pristine San Blas archipelago, meeting the unique Kuna Indians, navigating the Panama Canal in search of wildlife, soaring over cloud forests on a thrilling zip-line tour, and finally traveling to a secluded Pacific Island for a few days of leisure and romance. On this wonderful adventure, we will visit Panama City, the Panama Canal Basin, the San Blas Archipelago, the Chiriqui province, and Boca Chica.

Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive in Panama City: Unfasten, unpack, unwind…
Upon arrival at the airport in Panama City, you will be greeted by our local crew and escorted to your hotel in the city. Your personal guide will review your vacation plan with you before retiring to your room for some deserved rest. The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy the hotel facilities or take a first peak at the city on your own. Overnight.

Day 2: Panama City History Tour: A tale of pirates and conquistadores
Stroll around Casco Antiguo, the beautiful Old Quarter, traveling back in time as you admire the lovely restored colonial mansions, French balconies, narrow alleys, and impressive churches. Listen to the city’s fascinating history as you sip a cup of renown Panamanian coffee or hot chocolate before visiting San Jose Church and its golden altar, French Plaza, the city walls, and the Central Plaza. Our explorations will lead us to the entrance of Casco Antiguo. We will stop at the popular Fish Market to see the daily activity. We continue to Panama La Vieja, the original settlement which was looted and destroyed by notorious English buccaneer Henry Morgan in 1671. Walk with your guide through the ruins as you listen to the amazing recount of the event. Wrap it up with a visit to the new museum for an interactive display of how people lived during those tumultuous times. You will feel as if you were in a live History Channel episode!

Day 3: San Blas, where the Kuna Indians rule
More than 350 islands, many nameless, most uninhabited, all pristine. Swaying palms, white sand beaches, azure crystalline waters, some of the oldest coral reefs in the world, and the Kuna Indians. A proud people with their own language and traditions, and legends, and gods. They rule their archipelago. Men fish from their canoes while women knit Molas, traditional rainbow-colored patterns emblazoned with fish, birds, jungle animals, and geometric designs. Snorkel, feel the breeze, eat fresh seafood, and mingle with the Kuna. You will arrive as a foreigner and leave as a friend.

Day 4: Exploring the Panama Canal Basin
Today you will have the opportunity to enjoy the ecological treasures of the Panama Canal Basin. The Gamboa Resort, located on the banks of the Canal, has been carefully designed to provide a variety of educational and adventure experiences for its guests. Relax by the pool, indulge on a spa treatment, go for a jungle hike, take a ride on the Aerial Tram, or paddle the Canal on a kayak (note that some of these activities have an extra cost).

Day 5: The Canal: Operation, navigation and screeching residents
Miraflores Locks, 10am: massive vessels are lifted to make the transit between two great oceans in one of the world’s greatest engineering feats. Your will be there to watch it, from the vantage point at the Visitor Center’s sheltered terrace. Your personal guide will answer any doubts and then invite you to join him in a visit to the amazing onsite museum for a great overview of the construction of the Canal, its history, and significance for Panama and the entire world trade. We then move to Gamboa, jump on a boat and navigate along the canal in close view of those same vessels; the difference is that they now look much bigger! We explore the islands in Gatun Lake, the Canal’s backstage, where packs of monkeys, sloth and many tropical birds are common sights. A complete sensory experience that will linger in your memory for a long time!

Days 6-8: Boquete
As the quaint community of Boquete appears in the horizon you will begin to understand that you are bound for a magical land, one that you may have imagined many times as a child while listening to a fairy tale before retiring to sleep. Frequently draped in mist and clouds, Boquete emanates a sense of ancient and enduring life. Algae, mosses and lichens get a foothold on the constantly wet surfaces, providing a place for orchids, bromeliads, ferns and innumerable other plants to cling to. Life is lived at a slow pace in the quaint village and farms, its inhabitants minding their daily chores while constantly keeping a protecting eye on the lush surroundings. Hundreds of species of mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles thrive in this idyllic environment, which may feel colder than you would have expected for a tropical country but which will leave a warm imprint in your soul.

Days 9-11: Romance at your Secluded Beach Paradise
A casual investigation of Panama’s bountiful Pacific coast will result in the discovery of numerous long, sandy beaches, where international resorts and popular all-inclusive properties have set shop. However, a more detailed inspection will reveal a handful of hidden coves and uninhabited islands where exquisite boutique hotels provide the ideal hideaway for perennial romantics and fresh honeymooners. They sit on cliffs overlooking the ocean or at seaside, their infinity pools merging into the blue horizon; they are quiet and peaceful, harmonious and trendy; they understand the significance of a carefully prepared, delectable meal and the importance of a peaceful haven where travelers can soothe their muscles and worries away from urban routine.

Day 12: At leisure in Panama City
Leisure day to enjoy at your own pace in Panama’s capital city. Revisit the colonial quarter, do some shopping, stroll or bike along the Amador Causeway, attend a folkloric show with a typical Panamanian dinner, or enjoy Panama’s pulsating nightlife in Calle Uruguay or in one of the trendy terraces in Casco Antiguo.

Day 13: Return home, energized and wiser
Time to bid farewell to this magnificent land. Your driver will take you to the airport in time for your departing flight. We hope you have enjoyed your stay with us and look forward to hosting you again in the near future. Safe journeys…
