Panama and Costa Rica are two stunning destinations with a rich biodiversity and some of the most romantic spots in the Americas. This spectacular combination featuring both soft adventure and romance will have you snorkeling in the pristine San Blas archipelago, meeting the unique Kuna Indians, navigating the Panama Canal in search of wildlife, soaring over cloud forests on a thrilling zip-line tour, rafting a tropical river, hiking on lava fields, climbing a waterfall, and finally traveling to the romantic Costa Rica Central Pacific coast for a few days of leisure and romance. We will visit Panama City, the Panama Canal Basin, the San Blas Archipelago, the Braulio Carrillo pristine rainforest, Arenal and its famous volcano, and the charming seaside town of Quepos.

Day 1: Arrive in Panama City: Unfasten, unpack, unwind…
Upon arrival at the airport in Panama City, you will be greeted by our local crew and escorted to your hotel in the city. Your personal guide will review your vacation plan with you before retiring to your room for some deserved rest. The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy the hotel facilities or take a first peak at the city on your own. Overnight.

Day 2: Panama City History Tour: A tale of pirates and conquistadores
Stroll around Casco Antiguo, the beautiful Old Quarter, traveling back in time as you admire the lovely restored colonial mansions, French balconies, narrow alleys, and impressive churches. Listen to the city’s fascinating history as you sip a cup of renown Panamanian coffee or hot chocolate before visiting San Jose Church and its golden altar, French Plaza, the city walls, and the Central Plaza. Our explorations will lead us to the entrance of Casco Antiguo. We will stop at the popular Fish Market to see the daily activity. We highly recommend you relish on some fresh ceviche (not included). We continue to Panama La Vieja, the original settlement which was looted and destroyed by notorious English buccaneer Henry Morgan in 1671. Walk with your guide through the ruins as you listen to the amazing recount of the event. Wrap it up with a visit to the new museum for an interactive display of how people lived during those tumultuous times. You will feel as if you were in a live History Channel episode!

Day 3: San Blas, where the Kuna Indians rule
More than 350 islands, many nameless, most uninhabited, all pristine. Swaying palms, white sand beaches, azure crystalline waters, some of the oldest coral reefs in the world, and the Kuna Indians. A proud people with their own language and traditions, and legends, and gods. They rule their archipelago. Men fish from their canoes while women knit Molas, traditional rainbow-colored patterns emblazoned with fish, birds, jungle animals, and geometric designs. Snorkel, feel the breeze, eat fresh seafood, and mingle with the Kuna. You will arrive as a foreigner and leave as a friend.

Day 4: The Panama Canal: Operation, navigation and screeching residents
Miraflores Locks, 3pm: massive vessels are lifted to make the transit between two great oceans in one of the world’s greatest engineering feats. Your will be there to watch it, from the vantage point at the Visitor Center’s sheltered terrace. Your personal guide will explain it in detail and then invite you to join him in a visit to the amazing onsite museum for an overview of the construction of the Canal, its history, and significance for Panama and the entire world trade. We then move to Gamboa, jump on a boat and navigate along the canal in close view of those same vessels; the difference is that they look much bigger now! We explore the islands in Gatun Lake, the Canal’s backstage, where packs of monkeys, sloth and many tropical birds are common sights. A complete sensory experience that will linger in your memory for a long time!

Day 5: Switch countries: The rainforest awaits!
Welcome to Costa Rica! We will be waiting for you at the San Jose airport for your transfer to Tapirus Lodge, ensconced in a private 1,200-acre reserve adjacent to pristine Braulio Carrillo National Park. Once in the reserve, on your way to our main building, you may see some adventuring guests soaring over the river on one of our zip lines. Don’t fret, you will be there too. But before that, how about taking a self-reconnaissance walk along our paved forest trails or visiting our terrariums and butterfly farm? After lunch and maybe a siesta, the time has come to experience the forest in a fast and exciting way: the zip-line tour. Soar through and over the forest on 10 lines on one of the safest operations in the world: we feature double cables, double harness, platforms with hand railings, and controlled-breaking system so you don’t have to grab the cable to break. This evening, after dinner, you can join our guides for a night safari in search of colorful frogs, bats, and other nocturnal animals.

Day 6: Rainforest explorations
This morning, depart in the company of your naturalist guide for a guided forest walk. We have several nature trails in our reserve that you can explore while learning about the rainforest and hopefully watching some of its dwellers. Our neighbors include tapirs, capuchin and howler monkeys, sloth, coati, peccary, agouti, anteater, and tayra as well as tons of morpho butterflies, seven species of hummingbirds and more than 500 bird species. Adventurous jungle treks and guided birdwatching tours are available at extra cost. Balance of the day at leisure.

Day 7: Rafting and chocolate: Can it get any better?
Breakfast at the lodge and transfer to nearby Sarapiqui where our rafting operation is located. We will head for the put-in point, where we don vests and helmets while listening to a safety orientation. Then it is miles of thrilling class III rapids complete with stunning jungle scenery and chances to watch wildlife including toucans, kingfishers, herons, tanagers, iguanas, sloth, monkeys, and bright green Jesus Christ lizards (you know, the funny ones that run over water). After the 2-hour trip, we will freshen up, change cloths, and enjoy a typical Costa Rican lunch. We hope you like chocolate as this afternoon we will be joining a yummy and very informative chocolate tour with some amazing tasting. After this thrilling day, our guide will transfer you to your hotel in Arenal where you should be arriving in the evening.

Day 8: Arenal, the land of fire
A mighty volcano towers over lush green pastures and plantations of yucca and papaya; rushing waters heated by the volcano are channeled into natural hot springs, offering a relaxing experience after a day of horseback riding, hiking on lava grounds, or mountain biking; and at night, the most active of all Costa Rica’s volcanoes may display a true show of fiery explosions, which will give you a hint of how the earth must have looked in its tumultuous beginnings. The day is yours to enjoy at your own pace.

Day 9: En route to Quepos
Quepos, our final destination for the day, awaits on its superb location on the southern Pacific Coast. But do not underestimate the journey, as they usually say. En route, we will stop at the Rainforest Adventures Pacific Park for a thrilling adventure: we will climb a 50-meter-high waterfall and then fly over it all by zip-lining to a tree platform. But wait, it is not over yet: you still need to cross the Hanging Sky Bridge before reaching the safety of our forest trails. Finally, learn about the transitional forest as you hike along the beautiful natural trails in the company of your naturalist guide. A well-deserved lunch and a lovely drive along the coast to the charming fishing village of Quepos will cap off this spectacular transfer!

Days 10-11: Quepos
Originally a sleepy fishing village, Quepos is a charming vacation spot full of surprises: Quaint hotels perched over hills offering exceptional sunset views, excellent sport fishing in its blue waters, whitewater rafting, snorkeling, surfing, kayaking, and, of course, Manuel Antonio National Park, which ranks as one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful parks with its display of white sand beaches, evergreen forest, and magnificent lookouts over the ocean. Enjoy!

Day 12 : Return home, energized and wiser
Time to bid farewell to this magnificent land. Your driver will take you to the airport in time for your departing flight. We hope you have enjoyed your stay with us and look forward to hosting you again in the near future. Safe journeys…
