Day 4: Monteverde / Skytram / Skywalk.
Breakfasts included. A local driver will pick you up around 7:15 a.m. and will take you to the Sky Adventure Park where you will start the tours at 8:00 a.m. The Sky Adventure Monteverde Park is located in one of the worlds most recognized and wonderful cloud forests. Monteverde’ s variable climate and high altitude has helped produce an extremely high biodiversity. It is home to over 100 species of mammals, more than 400 species of birds, thousands of insect species and around 2500 species of plants containing the largest number of orchids in the world. Monteverde is acclaimed as one of the most outstanding wildlife refuges worldwide. Today your family will enjoy 5 hours of full adventure with a guided tour at the Sky Adventure which includes: skytram, skywalk and skytrek.
SkyTram: The Sky Tram gondolas rise smoothly through the rain forest, offering up endless views during their mountainous ascent. This tour is perfect for people who want to take a different approach on admiring nature, without much physical effort but still be on spot where natures exhibits all its magic. On tour you will be attended by a bilingual guide who will point out different characteristics of the flora and fauna and other interesting facts. The Sky Tram travel up the mountains to arrive in a wide observation platform on the highest point of the reserve, where you can enjoy the view and also have the possibility to walk a short trail.
Skywalk: Sky Walk uses trails and a series of suspension bridges for a more relaxing introduction of the flora and fauna of the forest canopy. It allows a vision of the forest from a different perspective which starts with a hike on the ground and then taking you to explore the treetops, a hardly discovered habitat called the “canopy” with a naturalist guide. Later today, we will offer a guided hiking tour at one of the famous reserves of the area.
Curicancha Reserve: At lower elevations, the Curi-Cancha Reserve covers lowland wet montane forest, while at higher reaches you’ll find premontane cloud forests. The reserve protects a number of impressive bird species, including the resplendent quetzal, orange-bellied trogon, keel-billed toucan, bluecrowned motmot, and blue-throated goldentail. Aside from birds, you may be able to spot armadillos, anteaters, three-toed sloths, coatis, whitefaced capuchin monkeys, howler monkeys, and tarantulas. Five trails wind through the reserve. The trails range in length from 1 to 2.2 kilometers and come in close contact with the various plants that inhabit the reserve. Although the trails are well maintained, they can be muddy and slippery after rain, so be sure to wear sturdy shoes if visiting this reserve. There are several excellent viewpoints along the trails. Some trails pass open, grassy areas that are excellent places to spot animals. Birds often come to the forest’s edge or rest in individual trees that stand rooted in open ground. This reserve sees far fewer visitors than the Monteverde and Santa Elena reserves. This makes it a pleasant, low-key place to visit.
