Upon your arrival at the international airport Juan Santamaría, our driver will pick you up. Our driver will also give you all the documents for you to start your holidays. A unique experience of visiting the oldest Wet Mill of Costa Rica (UNESCO 2014) as well as its machinery with more than 120 years, this will allow you to learn each of the stages of the process (separation of qualities, peeling, fermentation tanks and drying off the beans). After taking the time to visit the different attractions of the property such as Butterfly garden and enjoying a delicious typical lunch, we will take you back to San Jose for an orientation city tour before getting back to your hotel.

Day 2: Tortuga Lodge & Gardens.

Early in the morning, you will be met by a guide from this beautiful hotel who will take you to Juan Santamaría Airport for a local flight to Tortuguero. Upon arrival in Tortuguero, a guide from Tortuga Lodge will meet you and will take you to their lovely property. The hotel is located just in front of the aircraft. Lodging for 4 nights/5 days at a downstairs room. 3 meals included per day (no drinks included). Absorb the natural beauty of Costa Rica as you travel on a guided tour from the city into the Braulio Carrillo National Park and through the agricultural versatility of the Limon lowlands, including pineapples, rice and banana. Once at the hotel, schedule an additional afternoon tour, explore the Lodge gardens and trails, relax by the pool or simply catch the warm breeze from a hammock. The Jungle Expedition package at Tortuga Lodge and Gardens includes: Regular boat tour on Tortuguero Canals (either at 7:00 a.m. or 2:00 pm.) and a visit to Tortuguero Village which can be offered on arrival day or the next day. Time of this tour is at 6:00 a.m. Lunch included, dinner and overnight at Tortuga Lodge, River View Downstairs Room. (B)(L)(D)

Day 3: Tortuguero National Park.

5:30 a.m. Private boat tour on the Canals. Enjoy nature at its best as you undertake a journey through the canals, a network of navigable waterways of great scenic beauty crosses the park from southeast to northwest. The canals and marshes are the habitat of 7 species of tortoise. They also provide shelter to the endangered West Indian manatee (Trichchus manatus) and the rare crocodile (Crocodylus acutus). Back to the lodge for breakfast. Upon your arrival a delicious breakfast will be waiting for you.

We suggest to relax at the hotel´s facilities or take self guided hikes around the property. There are two short trails behind the lodge that offer the opportunity to view nature and tropical wildlife. The way to have the best chance of seeing wildlife on the trails is to start by walking a few minutes down the trail and then stand still for at least a half an hour, the more time, the better. Be careful, even a whisper can scare away some animals.

Bathe yourself in insect repellent before you go. The area immediately around the lodge is relatively insect-free, but as soon as you step into the forest it gets very buggy. Rubber boots are available for free at the reception. After lunch, an afternoon tour of Tortuguero village would be offered. Dinner and overnight at Tortuga Lodge, River View Downstairs Room. For the rest of the day, just to relax while appreciating the beautiful nature around you or maybe to book any of the optional activities at the hotel: Nesting; Hatching; Night wildlife tour!

Day 4 - 6: Arenal Volcano.

After breakfast of course, it would be time to continue to your next adventure. A local flight from Sansa will be offered at 7:00 a.m. Upon arrival, our driver will pick you up and take you to your next nature destination: the Arenal Volcano where you will spend the next 2 nights-3 days at Arenal Springs Hotel or similar. Arenal Springs hotel definitely rates as a very classy hotel, maintaining a special balance of elegance harmonious with nature. Peace, tranquility and privacy of its guest were very important to the owners when designing the rooms. And it is much appreciated and felt while staying at this lovely hotel. The view to the Arenal Volcano is impressive. Each suite is designed to give its guest the most impressive views to the Volcano. Allowing everyone the honor of enjoying God's remarkable creation. The manicured gardens are refuge to many species of butterflies and birds native to the Arenal area.

Hotel Arenal Springs gives its guest all of the extras they would expect from a Grand Hotel, but with the warmth and comfort of a locally owned Inn. The restaurant offers a variety of great dishes to choose from, enjoying your meal in an opened restaurant with a spectacular panoramic view is a definite extra. Hanging Bridges Tour:
This tour could be offered in the morning, afternoon or evening time. This amazing project is located in a wonderful rain forest preserve with 250 hectares protected land. You can go into the natural paradise along walking trail of three kilometers passing 15 bridges, six of them are hanging bridges with an spectacular design as a secure – enjoyable adventure to see the forest from the ground (like a Jaguar) from the middle (like as Monkey) and from the treetops (like an Eagle)… One of our hanging bridges is called The Waterfall Bridge and is over 60 meters high off the ground. Another one is called The Tyra Bridge and is 98 meters long, just to give you an idea. In this heaven of nature you can find over 250 species of birds, including some like: The White Hawk, Great Curassow, Rufous Motmot, Rufous-tailed Jacamar, Blackthroated Trogon, and many others...

Safari float in Canoa:
We start with a brief 20 minute drive to the lower Peñas Blancas River in an air-conditioned van. From there we launch inflatable rafts on this slower moving section of the river. Enjoy a relaxing 2 hour float with no motor, only the incredible sounds of nature around you. The expert bilingual naturalist guide will describe the many different flora and fauna of the region. Along the way it is possible to see 2 species of sloth’s, monkeys, 3 species of Toucans, crocodiles, Jesus Christ Lizards, caimans, different colored iguanas, mammals, and a variety of birds.

The second part of the tour includes a stop at the farm of Don Pedro Farm. This is the highlight of the trip for most tourists. Shake his hand; calloused from many years of hard work. He has endured 65 years on what most considered useless farmland, and without roads, electricity, or running water. Our guide will translate as you enjoy a visit with this fascinating man. His family will prepare wonderful Tico snacks for you to enjoy. Next we journey into the Primary Tropical Rainforest along his farm…if the weather permits. You will be surrounded by trees over 100 hundred years old as we look for more animals including the “Blue Jeans” Poison Dart Frog. Our guide will educate you on the many medicinal purposes of plants in the rainforest. On the trails you can see one of the smallest flying mammals in Costa Rica. You will also learn of the interesting relationship/comparison between frogs and humans. Finally we reboard the rafts for our final 40 minute float to Boca Arenal while we continue to enjoy the scenery. The return trip to La Fortuna allows you to see the extensive agriculture system of San Carlos County.
