This tour takes you deep into the land which used to be one of the greatest kingdoms of the world. In this fascinating land, the past comes alive in the form of strange and beautiful monuments and ruins built long centuries ago. Moreover, it is a past which began as the cradle of mankind. Marvel at the spectacular 2,000-year-old stele at Axum, the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela built more than 800 years ago, the less visited rock-hewn churches of Tigray, the Danakil depression, and the Omo Valley tribes.

Itinerary:
Day 1. Arrival of Addis Ababa (10 Min Driving To Our Hotel). Arrival Addis Ababa and meet. Then transfer your hotel.

Day 2. Addis Ababa – Axum - Hosanna (Palm Sunday) at Axum. Axum (30 min) (Mysterious Monolithes).
You will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Axum. A city more than 2500 years of history, once the center of a great empire and ancient civilization, home of the original Ark of covenants, Axum is the prime historical site in the north of Ethiopia. Take a city tour that include the St. Mary’s Church, the sanctuary Chapel which is the repository of the ‘Ark of covenant’, the coronation yard, Stelae Park, Tomb of Kaleb and his son Gebre Meskel, Ezana’s Inscriptions, Queen of Sheba’s Bath, Queen of Sheba’s palace ruins and Axum Museum. Overnight in Axum.

Day 3. Axum-Attending The Palm Sunday.
This day after having our breakfast we will attend the wonderful festival of Palm Sunday at St Marry church Axum- Palm Sunday: This is the Sunday before Easter. It commemorates Christ and risqué; entry into Jerusalem from Egypt. On this date, early in the morning, the deacons walk around in every village of the town to deliver palm leaves to followers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church to wear on their foreheads the whole day. This feast is colorfully celebrated at Axum every year and many people come from all over the county and overseas to attend. Later after lunch, we will be driven to the town of Adigrat on the way we will see the temple of Yeha. Overnight Adigrat.

Day 3. Adigrat – Mekelle.
This day after breakfast we will be driving to Mekelle on the way we will visit the ancient Ethiopian monoltics and rock churches of Wukero Cherkos, Adikisho Medhanyalem then after lunch we will see the churches of Abrha Wasba later drive to Mekelle to take a rest for our journey to Denakil Depreshion. Overnight Mekelle.

Day 4. Mekelle-Drive to Dodom-Volcano.
We drive from Mekele to - Dodom. We start early drive to Dodom (at the base of Erta Ale). Leave after an early breakfast, possible at 07:30. This is may be one of the worst roads in the world. The 70 km distance may take about 5 hrs passing through changing the landscape of solidified lava, rock, sand and occasional palm-lined oasis. After you pass several small hamlets scattered here and there in this desert land, Dodom is about 9.5km from Erta Ale and it takes about 3 hrs trekking. Early dinner around 17:00 and trek up to Ertale at 20:00 hours. Camels transport all the camping materials and some food (sleeping materials like light mattresses and mat and water) to the rim of the volcano, where we spend the night watching the dramatic action of the boiling lava. Erta Ale ranks one of the most alluring and physically challenging natural attractions anywhere in Ethiopia. It is a shield volcano with a base diameter of 30 km and 1km square caldera at its summit. Erta Ale contains the world’s only permanent lava lake. Overnight on the top of the mountain. Erta Ale is 613 meters, with a lava lake, one of only five in the world, at the summit. It is notable for being the longest existing lava lake, present since the early years of the twentieth century. Overnight at camping on the mountain.

Day 5. Dodem – Hammedele.
Descend from Erta Ale around 9 am Dodom - Hamd Ela. Leave back to Dodom after an early breakfast, if possible at 07:00. You will reach latest at 10:30 am at the camp, time to relax. After a drive to reach Hamad Ela, better village with a total population about 500 people. Overnight at Hamedela (camping).

Day 6. Hamedela - Mekele.
Morning tour Drive to Ragad (Asebo), the place where the localities are mining salt. Look the activity of breaking the salt from the ground, cutting into rectangular pieces and loading on camels. You drive ahead to Dallol and visit the difference landscape formed by volcanic activity, Dallol + Lake Assal + camel caravans. Excursion to Dallol (116 meters below sea level, one of the lowest places in the world) colorful salts mining, visit Lake Assal, follow up camel caravans and walk with the Afar people. Drive back to Hamedela and proceed to Mekele. Overnight: Mekelle.

Day 7. Mekelle - Lalibela - Good Friday.
After breakfast we will start our driving to the medieval city of Lalibela on the way we will stop in local markets and stop for photo view in different amazing landscapes then lunch will be in Weldya later drive to Lalibela for overnight. Based on our time of arrival we will show you how the Good Friday will be celebrated in Lalibela. Overnight Lalibela.

Day 8. Lalibela - Eve Of Ethiopian Easter.
In the morning you will continue your journey into Ethiopia’s long and marvelous past with a visit to other St. Lalibela’s remarkable churches. The rock-hewn churches that you will visit this afternoon include: Bete Gebriel, Bete Mercorios Bete Amanuel, Bethlehem and Bete Aba Libanos. In the afternoon, you will visit one of the most colorful annual Easter Market at Lalibela. In the evening, you will witness one of the most important ceremonies of Easter in one of the biggest rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, Bete Medhanialem. In the evening all the rock-hewn churches will be filled with people who have been fasting for 55 days. None of them have eaten anything at least for a day and a half without any water and food. They are here to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and there will be prayers and candlelight ceremonies accompanied by chanting and dancing of the priest until 3:00 in the morning. It’s only after the ceremony is over that everybody goes home to break the fasting with the special Easter meal and the feast which has begun at the church continues all day long and the weeks to come. Overnight stay in Cliff Age Hotel Lalibela.

Day 9. Ethiopian Easter.
Early in the morning, we will be beheading to Hill Church of Asheton Mariam (on the back of a mule or on foot), Nakute LeAb. Overnight stay in Cliff Age Hotel. April 9/2018 Fly Back to Addis and drive to Awassa. 4hrs Drive Via The Rift Valley Lakes. The morning after breakfast transfer to airport for flight back to Addis then we will be driving to Lake Langano for water activity like swimming then after having our lunch in the beautiful lodge of Africa we will be transferred to Awassa to the rift valley lakes region. Overnight: Haile Resort/Similar.

Day 10. Drive to Arbaminch via Dorze village. 4 hrs Drive Via Alaba.
After breakfast visit Awassa Fish market and drive to Arbaminch through Chencha village to visit Dorze people. Overnight: Paradise Lodge/Similar.

Day 11. Boat trip on Lake Chamo & drive to Turmi. 6hrs Drive Via Konso.
Morning, after breakfast make a boat trip on Lake Chamo to see the largest crocodiles in Africa which measure up to 7 Mts. Then drive to Turmi enroots visiting Tsemay and Benna tribes. Then walk to the villages of the Hammer people that enjoy body decoration and wear quantities of colorful beads and clay hair buns with Ostrich feathers spend a pleasant afternoon with friendly Hamar people. Overnight: Turmi Lodge/Similar.

Day 12. Excursion to Omorate-Turmi. 2hrs 30min Two Way Drive.
Excursion to Omorate to visit the Dasenach tribes across the Omo River by wooden local boat then come back to Turmi in the afternoon to visit the nearby hammer tribe village also is a possibility to see special occasion ceremonies like wedding and ritual. Overnight: Turmi Lodge/Similar.

Day 13. Excursion to Mursi. 2hrs Drive Via Key Afer.
In the morning after breakfast, you will be driven to Jinka then we will be beheading to Mursi (55 Km from Jinka) and visit the of Mursi tribe village known for their attractive culture, women wearing large clay plates into their lower lips. 20min Walk To The Village. This day after breakfast we visit the Ari tribes and their villages then we will have a chance of attending how they do weaving and pottery. Overnight: Jinka Resort/Similar.

Day 14. Drives to Arbaminch via Konso Village, 5 hrs Drive Via Konso.
After breakfast drive to Arbaminch en route visit Konso tribes’ village. The king village is very interesting. Overnight: Paradise Lodge/Similar.

Day 15. Drive back to Addis Ababa. 7 hrs Drive Via Butajira.
After breakfast drive back to Addis and on the way visit Tiya and Melkakunture archeological site. We will be arriving in Addis Ababa in the evening then you will have a shopping at one of the best shops for souvenirs evening farewell dinner and transfer to airport for flight back home. Overnight: Caravan Hotel Addis.
