Begin in Cartagena, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is an archetypal Colombian city filled with historic streets, alley ways and stories. Take in the old, walled city’s tiled roofs, balconies and courtyard gardens, and then head to San Andrés, a Caribbean island northwest of Colombia surrounded by clear, blue-green sea and some of the most beautiful (and intricate) coral formations in the world. Wrap up your tour in Santa Marta (Colombia’s oldest town on the Caribbean coast). On this Colombia tour, you’ll spend 3 days in Cartagena (where you’ll tour the old, walled city center), take a trip to the Rosario Islands and then spend another 3 days in San Andrés. Finish up your tour with a visit to Santa Marta for 3 days and take a trip to the Tayrona National Park (where you’ll hike through the jungle and explore local villages and stunning beaches).

Day 1: Cartagena
Take the flight to Cartagena. Upon arrival transfer to the hotel. Cartagena is the fifth largest city in Colombia and a pivotal port city on the Caribbean coast. Cartagena is now a popular tourist destination, known for its colonial architecture and charm.

Day 2: Cartagena Old Town Walk
Guided walk along the walled old town. See churches; colonial houses (their balconies and other architectural nuances); the Museum that was the residence of the five-time president of the Republic, Rafael Nuńez; the Santa Catalina bastion; and Las Bovedas (The Dungeons), where one can find hand-crafted souvenirs. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 3: Islas del Rosario
Cruise to Rosario Islands (to the south of the Bay of Cartagena). These Islands constitute a National Natural Park on account of their 23 coral islands and marine fauna. There will be the chance to swim and snorkel. Lunch Included. Return to Cartagena.

Day 4: Cartagena – San Andres
Transfer to the airport to take the flight to San Andres. Upon arrival transfer to the hotel. The island is now well-known for its beaches.

Day 5: San Andres Island Tour
Tour to some of the island’s highlights: Morgan’s Cave, Blowing Hole, South Bay Beach and San Luis. San Luis is known for its long, white beaches and wooden houses (testaments to its English past).

Day 6: San Andres
Day at leisure. One may choose to add an optional excursion to Haynes Cay and Johnny Cay, where one can listen to local Caribbean music and see colorful, tropical fish; white beaches; and clear, blue and green water.

Day 7: San Andres – Cartagena – Santa Marta
Transfer to the airport to take the flight to Cartagena. Upon arrival transfer to Santa Marta (4-5 hours). Upon arrival transfer to the hotel.

Day 8: Santa Marta Tour
Half-day visit to Santa Marta's colonial district, the cathedral and the Anthropological and Ethnographic Museum (a good means to learn more about the Tayrona civilization). Next up: the Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino, the house where Simón Bolívar died in 1830, and last but not least, a visit to Taganga Bay and El Rodadero.

Day 9: Pueblito Archaelogical Park – Tayrona National Park
Get a very early start (6:00 am) and head from Santa Marta to the small, settler village of Gourd. After a 2 and 1/2 hour walk through forests and mountains, arrive at Pueblito, an archaeological site that showcases the masterful engineering and speaks to the rich culture of The Tayrona, a pre-Columbian civilization. The trail then descends to the beaches of Cabo de San Juan, where there will be a chance to swim in the Caribbean Sea. After that, continue to the Natural Pool and Arenilla Reefs and cross a hill to reach the Canaveral and return back to Santa Marta by car. Lunch included.

Day 10: Santa Marta – Bogota
Transfer to the airport to take the flight to Bogota and connect with the international flight back home (driver only).

Airfare is not included in the tour price.
