Perfecting your off-piste skiing skills with our ski instructors in the Italian resort of Gressoney is a fantastic way to start getting to grips with skiing off-piste. Gressoney is part of the Monte Rosa ski region in the Italian Alps and is an emerging resort with a reputation for superb off-piste skiing. Huge, deserted off-piste snowfields and scenic, wooded descents through impressive scenery await. There are also some great heli-skiing opportunities. This is an intensive instructional ski course aimed at helping you make the transition from piste to off-piste and teaching you the techniques to confidently ski the whole mountain. The course blends off-piste instruction with sessions on mountain safety and awareness and excellent skiing making it informative, educational and a lot of fun.

5 full days off-piste instruction plus 1 'freeskiing' day when no instruction is provided.

Ski programme:
The principal aims of this foundation level off-piste course are:
- To provide first class tuition and instruction from professional, friendly Ski Intstructors to radically improve your off piste skiing technique.
- To give practical mountain awareness training on the hazards and risks associated with skiing off-piste particularly for avalanches.
- To provide the opportunity to ski the best off piste in the Monterosa ski region.

Itineraries vary depending on the composition of the group and the weather and snow conditions.

Ski area: The Monterosa Ski area has a wonderfully genuine Italian atmosphere with a friendly local ambience and stunning scenery. It is accessed from three charming alpine villages; Alagna, Champoluc and Gressoney, which are all linked by 200 km of pistes. The off-piste skiing is awesome with great runs from the top of all the lifts and the slopes are usually completely deserted. The highest lifts give you 2000 m vertical. There are also some excellent heli-skiing options and day tours to Zermatt and Cervinia.

Skill: The Level 4 Off-Piste Performance courses were previously called "Off-Piste Beginner". These courses are ideal for skiers who have never skied off-piste or have limited off-piste experience (less than 2 weeks). All participants need to be competent on-piste, capable of skiing parallel at a steady pace on all red runs whatever the conditions and easy black runs. These weeks will be run by Ski Instructors with focus on comprehensive off-piste instruction.

Level 5 courses are aimed at skiers with some off-piste experience (e.g. completed a Performance Level 4 course or similar) and who are looking for further intensive off-piste instruction. These weeks will be run by Ski Instructors and the focus will be on selecting terrain that will really challenge you and take your skiing to the next level.

Stamina: For the off-piste performance courses you need to have good allround fitness and stamina. We recommend that you prepare for any trip by running, cycling or any other keep-fit activity. Generally the fitter you are, the more fun you will have.

Accommodation and meals: You will be staying in twin-room accommodation in one of the many hotels in Gressoney. Our preferred hotel is the Hotel Dufour in Gressoney La Trinite. This is a very pleasant 3* hotel just fifty metres from the lift and ideal for quickly accessing the ski area each morning and skiing back to the door at the end of the day. Food - breakfast and evening meals - is excellent.

Equipment: A copy of our recommended kit list will be sent to you at the time of booking. Standard downhill equipment is acceptable on our beginner-level off-piste weeks. Alpine touring equipment is recommended for intermediate off-piste clinics. This allows access to some off-piste descents that require some walking. Safety equipment: everyone is expected to ski at all times with the three essential items of avalanche safety equipment; transceiver, shovel and probe. If you ski off-piste regularly we recommend you purchase your own set. We use and recommend the DTS Tracker and can offer you these at a discounted rate. Alternatively the guides do usually have a number of sets available for hire.

Insurance: It is a condition of booking that you are insured for off-piste skiing covering personal accident, rescue and third party risks. You are strongly advised also to take out cover against cancellation and curtailment. We can arrange this for you at a cost of £42 per person for a 9-day policy.

Airfare is not included in the tour price.
