After the overnight ferry from Gorontalo to Pagimana, we cycle the 64 km. to Luwuk, including up the 7.5 km. stretch of mountain spine if you like. Lovely scenery along the coast, and it is cool with pine trees on top at 511 meters altitude. The little jungle path down to Biak, 10 km. from Luwuk, is lovely.
The bathing place at the bottom has been unexpectedly closed off, as the local government wants to make a public place out of it with charges for vehicles. Last trip, however, we went around the crude fence of sticks and had a delightful bath undisturbed.
From Luwuk west to Toili is a nice ride, up and back, nearly 100 km. of mostly flat asphalt road (one-way). The people in Toili, migrants from Bali and Java, were friendly and helpful. Yani and Jerome at Maleo Cottages, 14 km. west of Luwuk, were sweet as ever. Jerome is also "married" to his live aboard diving boat.
From Luwuk, we take a morning ferry to Peleng Island. We ride 26 km. to a lovely family's guesthouse, the only one on the island. There is another ride up over the mountain into the opposite climate zone, where we catch the night ferry back to Luwuk. The people are fantastic, and the scenery is very rustic.
Airfare is not included in the tour price.
Our fees include airport meet, bicycles, guide, air-con transport van, hotel or guesthouse accommodation, double-occupancy twin-share basis, 3 meals per day, water, and transport scheduled within our sojourns. Some items excluded are: medical care, alcoholic drinks, onward transportation, lost or damaged property kept with guest. Non-cyclists are always more than welcome to join!
Payment: First payment at the end of Day 1, 50%. At the end of the half-way point, the 2nd payment of the remaining 50% is made. How's that for fairness?
