By booking an "intensive" Italian course (20 lessons of 45 min. divided into 4 lessons a day), beginners, after a two weeks course, will have at their disposal a wide vocabulary and an excellent grammar background on which, besides communicating, they can use to build up a serious study of the Italian language. Students with a basic knowledge of the Italian language can enrich their vocabulary and learn a lot more about this wonderful language. Advanced level students such as Italian teachers, as L2, have the opportunity to attend a course which will enable them to practice their language skills with our highly qualified teachers and receive a professional certificate at the end of the course.
* There are a few key differences between the two language schools at Aspra and Cefalu:
In Aspra the lessons take place at the school or on the roof terraces of the various apartments overlooking the sea. The distance from the local accommodation is minimal and all accommodation has a stunning view of the sea and the Mediterranean gulf. Just outside the front door of the apartments are rocky outcrops and small stony bays from which you can swim, dive, go snorkeling or scuba diving. The small village of Aspra, not far from Bagheria, is a charming fishing village and a peaceful location, ideal for anyone who wants a break away from the crowded tourist traps in the larger cities. Dependant on accommodation, the maximum distance from the town is 400 meters to 1 kilometer. The town of Bagheria is around 15 kilometers from Palermo and can easily be reached by public transport or by car. Palermo offers much to tourists and is notable for its regular cultural activities. Being in close proximity to the beautiful city of Palermo also makes Aspra an ideal base for those who love city nightlife and good Sicilian food. There are also excellent restaurants in and around Aspra itself.
In Cefalu the lessons take place in our language school, situated a stone’s throw from the sea and from the famous Norman Church. Lessons can take place, by special request, in your own apartment or in the gorgeous shady garden of the Villa Caterina. All of the accommodation is not more than ten minutes walk from the sea and from the school. Cefalu is well known for its sandy beaches and beautiful historic church. Cefalu's favorable geographic position, on the center of the Mediterranean coast, makes it the ideal departure point for all of Sicily's most notable cities. Cefalu has an active nightlife with its countless bars, cafes, typical Sicilian restaurants and its numerous cultural events and excursions. The Aeolian Islands are just an hour away from the port in Cefalu with daily departures. These characteristics make it ideal for all tastes, including those who are traveling alone and without personal transport. Thanks to its enchanting atmosphere Cefalu welcomes tourists all year round from mainland Italy and the rest of the world, though this has not tainted its real character or the locals’ warm hospitality. This is the perfect opportunity to taste a bit of the authentic Italian lifestyle.
Our Italian language courses are designed and structured by qualified teachers and mother-tongue linguistics, with many years of experience in teaching Italian to foreigners. They also bring themselves regularly up to date. Every student, even those who have a very basic knowledge of Italian, is tested at the beginning of the course, and is then put into a group of the correct level, determined by the results of the test. As a result Solemar-Sicilia guarantees language courses in small groups and of an appropriate level. Language classes are in the morning, from Monday to Friday, leaving the afternoon free to take a trip around the island or simply relax at the beach. Textbooks and other necessary material are loaned to the students for the entire period of the course for free, and at the end of the language course the students receive a certificate. There are no classes on December 25, on Easter Monday and on August 15.
Discover Sicily and discover the world. The world's first multicultural society, Sicily is Italy's (and Europe's) most historically cosmopolitan region, having been ruled by Asians, Africans and Europeans. There's no other place on Earth like Sicily. Our island is a unique place full of art, archeology, history, folklore and breathtaking scenery. And, of course, great food. Sicily is almost a nation unto itself. The enchanting land where Archimedes taught and Saint Paul preached was a Greek colony, a Roman province, an Arab emirate and a Norman kingdom. The Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Swabians, Angevins and Aragonese made Sicily their own, leaving behind an eclectic history that you can still touch today. And Sicily will touch you. Sicily is Europe, Africa and Asia on one island. We have been organizing our language courses for 20 years in two places here in Sicily.
Our school organizes a free excursion to the ancient remains of Solunto which was one of the main Punic towns in western Sicily, along with Motia and Palermo. According to the students' interests, the school offers cheap entertaining activities such as a Sicilian cookery course, excursions by mountain bike, guided tours in the surrounding mountains, trips by boat, a pottery course, diving course and a guided social cultural tour of Palermo; in addition, the students will also be able to practice some sports and, upon request, we will be glad to organize trips to Erice, Segesta, Etna, Taormina, Agrigento, etc. The mildness of Sicily's climate and the original character of the Sicilian people will make the stay in Sicily a unique and fascinating experience.
* Aspra: Language class participants stay in holiday houses in Aspra/Mongerbino or Santa Flavia, two coastal towns, approximately 15km east of Sicily's mystical capital Palermo. Those who choose to stay in our holiday houses will be living right next to an incredibly clean sea! The hospitable apartment along with the wonderful view of the gulf of Palermo and the many available activities will make your stay unforgettable! In the nearby fishing village of Aspra or in Santa Flavia you can find restaurants, bars, ice-cream parlours, open air cinemas and much more, all which can be reached on foot.
* Cefalu: The structure and teaching of the lessons correspond to those in Mongerbino. Here the courses take place in the rooms of an old convent, which was transformed into a study center where our Italian language branch resides. The school overlooks one of the most important streets in Cefalu, close to the city center.
